Is art created with a goal in mind?

Question:Is it to say something or make something happen (even a paycheck)? If so, does that make it teleological in nature?
But what about just simply capturing an idea or a vision of beauty? Can art be created with no goal? If so, does that make it ontological in that it exists for its own sake and nothing else?

Everything has a goal behind it, whether we know it or not. If we are hungry, we grab something to eat to fill ourselves. That is the goal. Since I enjoy making art, I like to capture beauty around me, in sarcastic ways. The beauty is an idea, or a vision like you said. How can you do something with no goal in mind? The goal here is to do art, and art is a skill. I think art is an expression visually, and the goal is to express.

I remember a saying how today art is done for the sake of art, which is not art at all.

To capture an idea
To give existence to something for its own sake

Even those are goals

It is all those things depending on the artist.

Capturing beauty is achieving a goal. All art is created with and for a purpose.Every piece of art is created for a specific person - whether the artist knows it at the time of creating the piece or not.

Art is often, but not always, random and it exists with or without a host...while much "art" is created with a purpose and goal, it's the timing of it's capture that defines it's source and purpose...therefore, art is often seen in hind-sight rather than foresight

Art is an expression and demonstration of creativity. It has value in inspiring others to be creative and to appreciate art
