Question:a simple question. do you really know?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: a simple question. do you really know?

To do what is right, true and good for the well being of another creature.

to show affectionate feelings towards a person

to get it on!

chemical reaction!

to unconditionally care for the feelings and well being of someone else

To love is too sacrifice. So if somebody is willing to knowingly sacrifice for another person but for their own satisfaction (in other words not out of guilt, necessity, etc) then they love them.

Love in the more common sense alludes to sexual relations though this is a wholly incorrect notion and only stems from the taboo's society puts on such relations.

A group of professional people posed this question to a group of four through eight year olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:

"Love is that first feeling you feel before all the bad stuff gets in the way."

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn’t bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That’s love."

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth."

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other."

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your french fries without making them give you any of theirs."

"Love is when someone hurts you. And you get so mad but you don’t yell at them because you know it would hurt their feelings."

"Love is what makes you smile when you’re tired."

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."

"Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen."

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate."

"When you tell someone something bad about yourself and you’re scared they won’t love you anymore. But then you get surprised because not only do they still love you, they love you even more."

"There are two kinds of love: Our love and God’s love. But God makes both kinds of them."

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday."

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well."

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn’t scared anymore."

"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don’t see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night."

"Love is when mommy gives daddy the best piece of chicken."

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."

"I let my big sister pick on me because my Mom says she only picks on me because she loves me. So I pick on my baby sister because I love her."

"Love cards like Valentine’s cards say stuff on them that we’d like to say ourselves, but we wouldn’t be caught dead saying."

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you"

"You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."

"God could have said magic words to make the nails fall off the cross, but He didn’t. That’s love."

To love someone.
Being faithfull, honest, and true.
Its being accepted as you are, and accepting them as they are.
Being willing to discuss even the harder subjects.
Make a real effort to communicate.
Being willing to discuss and make compromises.
Being willing to include your partner in all aspects of your life.
Being aware that love changes with time, but that doesn't mean that its not as good.
Always love should include hope.
Being worthy of the faith your partner puts in you.
Being aware that love isn't going to be perfect, because perfection is impossible. Be prepared to forgive slights, and mistakes.
Its wanting the best for the other person.
Love, real love, is never violent. It is not distructive. It is not abusive. It is not controlling or manipulative. It is not jealous, or nasty, or rude and insensitive.
And to really love someone, you must believe yourself worthy of their love.

to love is to give yourself freely. yes i really know what love is because i have seen all of it's impostors.

love is compassion towards others. it is loving your neighbor as your self... it is caring for others and giving things up for them ven when you don't want to. it is being willing to do something for that person that you would't do for anyone else. It is caring unconditionally. It is mercy and grace. Love is how we live. It ishould be how everyone lives day to day.... Love is caring for someone who doesn't deserve it... giving to them even when they least deserve it.. Love ....it never changes... it is the essence of life.......love should be freely given... love is patient, kind, it is is not rude.... it is merciful,
od is love......Jesus could have come down frm the cross. but he didn't ... That is TRUE love. He died for you ad me..that is real love. Jesus gave the world hope in the midst of anguish.. that is real love. The gift of life is open to everyone. THat is love.
Love is sacrificial... it doesn't stop giving. Love, it is what I felt during the midst of uncertainty. It is what i felt surround me while my dad was in that hospital bed, fighting cancer.... Love was what i felt when people sacrificed their time to comfort us.......
Love is what i feel everyday....love is what God gives to his childen. Love is what keeps the world moving.... Love is what keeps ME moving................

to care about someone, and when you ARE close, u NEVER feel close enough!! =D and u just never want to hurt them or see them fail =) thts love, man!

love is many things. however i find the one thing that comes to mind with the question "what does it mean "to love" i think of trust. unfortunatley humans have lost this ability, it seems. Latley, it seems though that the word love is over-used. thankfully it seems to last pretty long.

to love someone...means.... you don't care what it would cost you.... you would do anything for them.

That depends entirely upon our experience and choices made during our life in conjunction with the environment at the moment in question.

Therefore, it is subjective and unique to each of us.

Edit: Whats interesting is the variety of answers and the categorical differences between the sex's. Is it possible for anyone to live up to some of the expectations that women have developed?

I really don't know what it means. Maybe I'll learn someday, maybe I won't. Probably just incapable of it.

To me there would be several levels. First one would be a response to special qualities in the personality of another person. Second would be a commitment to others despite their 'lack' of special qualities at that time. Putting anothers interests and wellbeing above your own. Its the key to decent life - treat others without judgement and in a fair way and we all grow, lack of love in that context means trouble. Often misdescribed description of lust or self interest. Central theme of the Bible and of the life of Jesus on earth. A cracked vessel (humans are not perfect). The foundation of joy.
