Question:How do you know when to persist at something and when to just accept something for what it is?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: How do you know when to persist at something and when to just accept something for what it is?

This is decision only you can make as only you understand the ramifications of such a decision on the issues, your life and the bigger picture.

Adversely, there is no point flogging a dead horse.

In both cases you must be conscious of the affects it will have on , not only you, but fellow humans. When persisting be sure you are not infringing on anyone's "rights" and when accepting, don't be accepting because you are too lazy to do what is ethical.

I think persistence is possible even after acceptance... one has to accept the instant result even if it is unfavorable, so as to be able to squarely analyze with a cool mind the underlying factors, and thereafter make the next decision as to whether it is better to persist with another modified attempt or to move on to something else. Non-acceptance hampers the tranquil balance of mind, and thereby can even scuttle the process of persistence.

This is an excerpt from The big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous 4th Ed.
"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation-some fact of my life-unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God’s world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life’s terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes.”
This resolves all my conflicts and when I have no conflicts in my life I am at peace. Peace is happiness in my world.
Persistence, or the need to be right is fatal to me.

Seek counsel from God NOT man - He alone can give you the right answer on that one. God knows all .... we know very little.

When its infinite!!!!

There is no substitute for hard work, 23 or 24 hours a day. And there is no substitute for persistance and acceptance.
