My sister was a state champion gymnast, she was in the gym daily until she was 17, than she had to retire. She at that point was past the point of olympic opportunities. She coached for a small time in a gym, but didn't earn a lot of money. Since than she has rarely been able to do anything with that sport.

Yoga, is something you can use your whole life there isn't an age limit, and there are so many place paying instructors. You must look at it, are you doing this thing for the now and the thrill or as a possible lifetime commitment. If it's for now choose gymnastics, if it's for a lifetime choose Yoga. You can always get into Yoga later on in life to.

I've been told that stretching for periods of time longer than 10 minutes or so really has little additional effect. Stick with gymnastics. Its a much better workout.

I'm just wondering why this question is in philosophy...

At any rate you haven't given us much to go on. Why, after all, is it a tough decision for you? How long have you been in gymnastics? Why are you thinking about Yoga? I think gymnastics is pretty cool, but it seems to me to also be mostly a high school thing, so if you are nearing the end or have already graduated, then I would suggest Yoga. It is, at the risk of sounding arrogant, a more mature "sport". Unless of course you intend on training for the olympics.

Why? To learn a new discipline for some reason. Yoga is also called an immobile gymnastics so consider it just another extension of what you already know. One takes care of the external portions and visceral of your body, also pretty much keeps the mind healthy by keeping the body fluids moving and the brain functioning. The other is a sort of mental gymnastics in that perhaps you need to centralize more on and in yourself at that level to be better at gymnastics. In gymnastics you only had to coordinate in a way to dominate the position or posture which was a completion of some very fast and difficult movement. Yoga is the same. You must coordinate breathing and posture and this takes mental force or effort and is more centered within at the concentrative and meditative determinant areas of the the refractive and reflective points of convergence.

Gymnastics use your life, yoga enhances it.

Why does this have to be such a big decision, you have your whole life ahead of you. That being said, you will not be limber or energetic enough to be doing gymnastics all your life. Bottom line is do what you enjoy the most, if that doesn't help, try to imagine not doing gymnastics, is that going to be intolerable, if so, then you have your answer
