Position:Home>Philosophy> Life, what things do you do, to prevent regrets?

Question:Please no "pie in the sky" responses.Be honest. When you think about facing your death, hopefully at old age, what types of things do you want to reflect upon about your life. What will bring a smile to your face and leave you with no regrets?

I'm well aware that many here will state things about their kids, family, religion and that is fine. However, I'm looking for things on a more personal nature. What do you want to accomplish or do that will make you feel satisfied as a human. Even if some of these things are not popular, or politically correct, do tell us about them anyhow.

sadly. i don't think i will ever feel satisfied. but i've learned to embrace that. it will drive me towards more experiences, more intensity, and more emotion (the good kind). satisfaction is a tough concept, because it implies that you have met your goal. so what's after that? there is no way that you will coincidentally finish everything you want to do the day you die. as someone that grew up without religion, i cherish every day, and live it for what it's worth. if a situation is not right, i will leave it to find something else. so i think it's a lot based on outlook. if you learn from everything, then nothing is regrettable. as for me personally, i want to see it all and do as much as i can. i will never get to all the things i want to do. and that is a little depressing, especially because a lot of them demand physical activity. but there are still plenty that don't, so i've got those too. let life be 'the call of the wild', it will leave you with countless stories, beautiful memories, and people to tell your tale.

I know that I will have no regrets for the things I've done because I make peace with them, I learned from everything I did that brought me here today and the future to what I am, and I like me. Will I regret not going to Italy, or meting President Carter, or even haveing a book published, Etc. I don't know on my death bed, maybe I will accomplish some of these things, I've got a ways to go yet, but my hope is that I see what I did do and have no regrets about what I didn't. That's the best I can give you, I'm at peace with myself now and hope I am at my time of death. :)

We live in a world where high achievers are congratulated and held up as examples to follow. We forget, though, that true quality of life is not related to how much you can get done, but to how deeply you enjoy your day-to-day experience of simply existing. You should be asking not, 'What can I add to my world?' but, 'What extraneous factor can I reduce or remove to lead a more simple, enjoyable life?' Remember what the Americans say. 'Less is more'. Reduce. And then, relax!

I would love to leave my mark in the world before i pass away. I wanna die knowing that the human species will not destroy each other due to differences in beliefs or any other thing. I wanna aid in the search of the cure for cancer of HIV. Most of all, I wanna do everything I set my mind to, whether it be to talk to the girl next door, sky dive, or pursue my dream job. In short, to prevent regrets, I pursue my dreams.

I've done plenty of things I regret. I don't lose any sleep over them, and view them as milestones to show that I'm not the same person I was at that time.

These days, I try to think before I act and speak. It saves a lot down the road...

You may not appreciate this answer but the only thing that I regret is that I ever regretted anything.

Life has been beautiful and I waisted so much of it wishing that something else would have happened.

The about 15 years ago I realized that I was all perfect and there was nothing to regret.

These 15 years have been the best.

Love and blessings Don

If you give 100% of yourself to the things you do in life, then there are no room for regrets because you know you've done your very best. This is the best answer I can give you as I don't feel comfortable telling a total stranger personal details about myself. Sorry, no offence.
