Is the TV a Life Tranquilizer?

Lovey has a really, really good point. TV distorts your view of the world. So watching does lead to more desire, less fulfillment. That's in addition to it being a timewaster. How bad it is depends on how critically you watch and what you get out of it. Any amount of TV that does not either stimulate the mind, or ease stress, is bad. Otherwise it's kinda neutral. I think if TV did not exist many people would be leading more fulfilled, healthier lives... same with any kind of sedentary, cheap entertainment.

there is proof that tv works like a trank and in small doses it is fine but if you watch it too much it can become an addiction.

Not only does excessive television-watching rob a person of ambition, it may also add to his or her discontent.

Being constantly bombarded by carefully-targetted messages, both blatant and subliminal, can give you the idea that ALL people have expensive cars, ALL women are supposed to be thin, ALL stories have a happy ending, and EVERYONE ELSE sits and watches as much TV as you do!

Me? I read. A different type of escape, but at least there aren't any commercials.

Definitely a tranquilizer in some respects. I can talk from not watching it too much because we haven't had cable/satellite for most of my life, and I don't think about it much. We would be leading very different lives without TV....hiking/camping/ biking/hanging with friends.....the list could go on. I'm betting that if you found other stuff to do besides watch TV, you would be amazed at how fast the day goes by!! I find I have a very good time with my friends....especially at college where we really don't have a TV (at least my roommate and I don't). If you need more tips I can try to help.....good luck!

TV exists to advertise products or services.
Even in series or movies you can notice that.
The TV is a waste of time.
