Position:Home>Philosophy> What would you say is the root cause for our curiosity to know everything?

Question:Vassili is right, we fear the unknown. But what is the root cause of our fear? Ego. We differentiate ourselves from nature and are thereby afraid of it and compulsively want to control it, requiring knowledge.

Our thirst for knowledge is endless because our need to control is endless. Its a nice fit in that it keeps us occupied but I hasten to think that there are better ways to use our limited time on this planet.

In a common traditional Protestant interpretation, Satan, in the form of a snake, convinces Eve that God has lied to her and her partner Adam concerning the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. It convinces her to eat the fruit of the tree so that they will become as gods. . Adam later follows suit. By this act, sin entered the world for the first time. With it, death also enters the world. (The Church has taught that before this event, animals lived forever, and without bloodshed.) God curses the snake, Adam, Eve and even the earth itself. The sin of Adam and Eve becomes imputed to all of the descendents of the original couple i.e. the entire human race to the present day. This is often described as the fall of humanity. A massive gulf was created by Adam and Eve's disobedience which can only be bridged by the salvation offered by Jesus Christ.

Because we have a brain capable of forward thinking. It is learned early that the more you know the better prepared you are for life and how to survive. After a while being an expert on something can make you very valuable to other people. Because of our conscience state of being we are aware of this fact and learn about what interest us. Use this to further progress in our lives. Progression...

our urge to be better than the others, in short, our pride, because if we know something that others don't it gives us certain self-esteem that we are different or better than others.

Knowledge is the key and the root cause of our curiosity. Without the knowledge we have acquired, we will not bother to be curious of the surroundings and to know what more we could have. We thirst for more knowledge as we grow and gain more until we want everything to come into our knowledge.
