Position:Home>Philosophy> Is Everything In Life 50/50?

Question:Really, something is or it isn't. There's nothing in between.

Ex:
Either you're going to pass the exam or not
Either you're going to be late to work or not
Either you're going to buy another pair of shoes or not.
Either you're going to save your money or not.
Either you're going to put a condom on or not
Either you're going to slip on the ice or not.

So in reality isn't everything in life a 50/50 chance.

It's either going to happen or its not going to happen.

I agree that every situation can be eventually divided into 2 options - something happening of not happening. e.g. win or not win, draw or not draw, lose or not lose. But the chance is not always 50/50 between the two.

some things are up to you...eg to buy or not to buy =]
x

Not really.
There are also WIN, LOSE or DRAW ( 3 possible outcome )

Sometimes it's 60/40 or 70/30. The odds of two opposing options vary widely. It also depends on how you define the options, whether there are just two or 3, 4, 5, etc.

edit: You can pretty much always define options as X or not X, but you can often define them other ways yoo. Either I will go to this college, that college or the other college, for example.

There are generally more options than just two. Sometimes there are only two (as with those you mentioned) but not always.

not really.
it all depends on the decisions you make.
just make sure to be ready on the consequences :)

in an accident you can be injured, experience no harm or die.
is it also 50/50?

No, there isn't always a 50:50 chance that a certain event will happen in life. Example... Either you're going to pass the exam or not. That really depends on how much study you do. If you don't do any study the chance of you passing may be like 1:100. Meanwhile, if you study a lot your chances of passing might go up to 99:100.
