Question:Why do you drink? I asked the same question to my mother and she said because she's dumb. I told her I wanted a reasonable answer, she answered me with the same thing. But there's has to be an answer to everything. It's either because you like how it tastes, you feel on top of everybody, you feel cool, what?!?!?!?! Come'on there's gotta be a real reason why people addicted to drinking do it! If you know please answer it.

The Operative word here is Addicted If they were not addicted I'm sure they would not be doing it, and they will not get help to stop until they get tired of it. Unfortunately, when a person is addicted to a substance their emotions are numbed over and they can't feel anything for anyone, the only they live for and think about is how they are going to get the next drink or next drug fix. They will sell their own child to get high. Its a sick and vicious cycle. Sometimes staging an intervention works but again if they are not ready to get help they will relapse.

To have a fun time.

What's the thing drinkers do?

i drink to get drunk yeah!!!!

Well drinking can be fun. And the reason people are addicted is because alcohol is an addicting drug.

I drink because of my friends. If they start to drink i will. Cause who drinks alone? ( rhetorical)

1) peer pressure made me do it

2) getting a buzz kept me doing it

that paragraph had some of the most random sentences i've ever seen in my life..... : |

It's just a social thing. Especially if your with your friends or girls/guys you want to talk to more openly, it's easier to do when your buzzed. I don't reccomend over-doing it.

don't sit there and judge people because they drink.

It starts off to be cool then some people never stop they get addicted and have to have it It is the #1 drug addiction.

I believe it is a disease.
People drink for many reasons....some do it to block out horrible memories, some do it b/c it feels good, some do it b/c they like the taste...many diff reasons....
Talk to your mom about getting help...

I drink because it is a social activity that I enjoy with my friends and family.

Some people drink due to alcoholism, and others drink because they actually do think it makes them 'cool'... Much like smoking cigarettes.

A lot of research has been done to find and explore the reason why people drink alcohol. From research conducted in the Netherlands among 15 to 25 year-olds, the following answers came up:

Sociability (71%)
Like the taste (51%)
Feel at ease (12%)
Get intoxicated (6%)
Get drunk (2%)
Because everybody does it (6%)
To forget problems (0%)

Alcohol gets risky when you need more to feel good. If you can't do that anymore on your own, and you use the alcohol for it, at a certain point you run the risk of starting to drink more and more each time to still feel the effects. This can be the beginning of an addiction. If you drink to feel good, you should ask yourself if you can also feel at ease without alcohol.

I don't drink, but in my opinion, based on most of the drinkers I know - most of them use alcohol because of stress/anxiety disorders; as a coping mechanism - then they get hooked.

I'm not addicted to drinking but occasionally I like to have A drink because its good. I always get a drink I like. If I don't see anything I want to try then I'll just get a regular drink. But, I guess I drink as a social event (just a drink or maybe 2). Plus, I'm an EXTREME lightweight so I can't take much anyways.

Hope this helps!

im not addicted, its more a social thing for me. i do it mainly just socially and also because it does make me feel more relaxed and after a while of a really stressed out life, getting drunk with my friends and hanging out is the perfect remedy, if youre of age =)

this might sound wierd but alcohol makes the brain think they are the main thing you know cool and it makes people drunk which is when the alcohol makes your brain trigger the female male thing
and yea
people like it cause they think its cool and mature or just cause they are stupid !

For me, I died drunk in my last go round!

Yes, I do know. Just about everyone drinks for that ceiling effect another word they like the high because it relaxes them, they think. Actually it causes depression and if carried on for a time it usually cause sever depression. Tell your mother to be very careful and that you want her to stop.

I'll say a prayer for you and your mother,

God bless you both,

Mary

The reason I drank was because It felt alot better than I felt inside. Today I,m clean and getting over my sh*it al that puking hangovers blackouts misery was actually worse but it took me to get clean to realize it.

Mmmm...beer. Booze is tasty. Not too everyone. To those who dont like the taste yet drink it anyway it can change the way you think. If you have tons of problems and regrets you dont have to think of them when your bombed cuz your too busy creating more problems and if your in jail for dwi you dont have to think about when uncle busy fingers was over. Some peoples bodies have been so flooded w/ booze that hey hurt and need it to perform normaly cuz thats what their body is use to. Life is full of stress and at the end of a day a few beers can take away all the thoughts and nerves of takin care of business. It provides false sense of secutity. A way to allow yourself to say "Ef, fork it." Alcohol; the creater and solver of all problems

There's really not one exact answer. Everybody drinks for different reasons.
When I first drank it was to be able to talk to people, I used to be really shy, drinking helped.
Then as I got older it was to hide my feelings.
Then it got to be because it was Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc....
Also, alcoholism is a disease.
I haven't had a drink in 16 years I have no more excuses to drink, but one reason to stay sober, I want to live.

Well, you just said it," Addicted", anyone who drinks, does so because they like the alcohol content, and what it does for them, as in gives you a high. Now u will have peole who will say, that is rubbish, that they enjoy the taste, so why not drink NON alcoholic wine. Also people who believe they are just social drinkers and they will consume one or two bottles in one sitting, would you drink, two bottles of pepsi in the same way. Alcohol is a very powerful "DRUG", I was a drinker all my life, and was never a social drinker, I didn't like the taste of alcohol, but I liked what it did for me, for awhile, until my life became totally dependant on that next drink, luckily for me I received help and have 9 years sobriety and live a very happy life, hope this answered your question......

If you're asking about alcoholism then the best explanation is that the sickness is a "disease".
When it was first published and circulated throughout the public I disagreed strongly. But with so many in my own family suffering from it, I've come to think harder on the subject and researched what I could. I found that it is true. The real reason for the addiction is that it is actually a fault with the individuals body. It is a disease.
I drink myself, but I haven't drank to get drunk since I was twenty five, and I'm in my fifties now. So sometimes it makes me wonder? Why so many in my immediate family has the disease and I don't! Because I can buy a bottle of Scotch and it could last a few months. I have two cases of beer downstairs and they've been sitting there since Christmas, I have one every once in a while. I have immediate family members that would drink the Scotch and the beer in 24 hours.

Pride. By numbing awareness of conscience, the drinker can escape the bounds of inner knowing and revert to a primitive state of thinking that s/he knows.

Good old fashioned Biblical Pride, to take the forbidden fruit so the drinker doesn't have to listen to God (conscience) anymore and can assume the (low) stature of separating the drinker from the source of all knowing (conscience) so the drinker can be free for the duration.

I speak from experience.

Addictions are driven by physiological reactions to addicting substances that are slowly revealing themselves to scientific investigation.

The only answer a drunk can give when a person asks him why he drinks is that he simply has to.

By the way, it IS possible to drink or use drugs without getting addicted to them. But you have to be very respectful of their power to addict and be careful not to get strung out on them. Some people, of course, are physiologically constituted not to be able to do this.
