Position:Home>Philosophy> I asked this but i did not put the terms and conditions up! sorry, WHO WOULD WIN

Question:If Batman and Superman fought, who would win?
dont jus tell me who u think, explain why. my friend and i have been argueing about it and we have come to no conclusion.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
1)THEY FIGHT ON EQUAL TERMS
2)ONLY WHAT THEY WERE BORN WITH
3)WE WANT PHILOSOPHICAL ANSWERS...DOESNT HAVE TO BE..... BUT WE WANT GOOD REASONING, SO INTELLIGENT ANSWERS PLEASE.
(P.S. It's for Philosophy... the difference between rejecting an argument and rejecting a conclusion, but don't worry about this P.S. part!!)

You have to know them both to understand who and why they would win.

They say Batman is really who Bruce Wayne is. Meaning, that Bruce Wayne is the disguise on Batman. Batman, or the Dark Knight, upholds justice and uses whatever means possible to enforce it. He is resourceful and genius in his strategy yet when pushed to his limits he is the "Dark" Knight and part of what makes him strong is he ability to deal with pain & regret by enduring it. He is a man who strives to be beyond man.

In opposition, they say Clark Kent is actually who Superman is. Its corny but Superman really strives to be human more than anything. Although he is superior in strength and powers, he is also infused with man's most noblest of loyalty, a sense of humanity unrivaled by humanity itself and has a great understanding of self-sacrifice for his fellow man.

This is why Batman would win. Superman, even in his most dire hour, would never kill Batman. While Batman, in his most dire hour, would... and endure whatever guilt comes with it with a superhuman resolve.

1) what does equal terms mean in this case? you need to define your terms. It is inherently unequal unless extraordinary steps are taken

The obvious answer is Superman. Batman is a highly skilled man, but he is only a man. Superman is just that, superior by definition. Batman's eye to hand coordination is not sufficient to beat Superman.

As soon as you take gadgets or other things out of the picture, Superman wins. There is no question.

Batman wins with a little preparation. He's won several times. It just takes a little warning to pack a ring with kryptonite. He's the better fighter (Superman doesn't really have any need for martial arts), and he's smarter. If he can weaken Superman enough with some kryptonite, he wins by virtue of skill and intelligence. And with his intelligence, he usually manages to weaken Superman with kryptonite.

i have had this same argument!
your terms and conditions don't make much sense in the situation. superman was born on krypton and on that planet he didn't have powers, its the yellow sun of the earth that gives him powers. batman was born bruce wayne, a regular guy. if you are saying that they fight with their regular comic book agilities, then i would say superman would win hands down. batman is clever and has some amazing gadgets, but i doubt he carries kryptonite on him, so superman would have no problem winning.

The answer is quite obvious.
Of course Lex Luther and the Joker wins. They would be laughing hysterically.

Lex Luther- " I must hand it over to you ,Joker. That was a brilliant ruse to get my arch enemy to challenge Batman and agree to fight in a kryptonite filled chamber as a human to even the odds in finding out who was the better man as a mortal being.

Joker- (cackling hysterically) "It was like taking candy from a baby, Mr Luther. Lets finish them off. We can fill the chamber with gas to kill Batman and you increase the krptonite for Superman.....

All right. The bad guy never wins. So there has to be another member of the superheroes league to save the day.
Here she comes- Ta da
Xena the warrior princess? -oops wrong generation

Ta da again... Aquaman. Quick what does he do?

Well, I absolutely love Batman. With gadgets I would say that he would win, however any Batman fan still has to admit that it is the gadgets that give Batman his powers. Deep down he is just a man, not very different than anyone else- and that is the point. He is a man with a dark past, bent on avenging his parents and protecting the innocent. He has some decent acrobatic and hand-to-hand combat skills, but he is still very, very human and relies on his technology and disguise as his main means.

Superman was born with super powers because he technically isn't "human" and doesn't need gadgets, end of story unfortunately.

....however, there is no reason for Batman and Superman to fight, because they both fight for good. One would have to be under some sort of evil influence, in which case it wouldn't really be Batman or Superman, would it?

I think that if Batman and Superman started to fight, they would start turning each other on and would soon stop fighting and start having sex with each other.
