Position:Home>Philosophy> What is the difference between meditation and medication?which one is important

Question:I think of meditation as something wholly natural. You are taking time to focus completely on your bodies needs, therefore recognizing them.
Medication can also serve your bodies needs, but is, I think less natural. Medicines are generally man-made, and therefore can be flawed. Your body was created not by man, so it works exactly as your brain thinks it should. Focusing on yourself brings greater peace than an outside addiction.
I don't think it is necessary to narrow down the goal of life to answer the second question. I think that just by focusing on peace fullness, you can catch glimmers of what life should be like.
However... from a scientific standpoint, the goal of life is to make more life. To reproduce. If you are not otherwise healthy enough to, medication becomes more important than meditation.
Thank you. That made me think a bit.

Depends on what ails you.

Medication heals the body.
Meditation heals the souls.

(This is true on most definitions of soul, including physicalist conceptions like mine.)

Medication is trying to make the body into something different.

Meditation is being.

The goal of life is a matter of opinion... in my opinion.

There are certain conditions like seizures and the insulin for a Diabetic which are serious conditions which require medication. A high blood pressure condition, a diabetic, and a seizure condition all require daily medication. It is good to exercise and think positive thoughts but please remember to take your medicine! I have been to churches where they believe in faith healing and positive meditation but I still think modern medicine and modern doctors save lives every day. It is best to follow your doctor's orders and think positive and still take your medicine.

great question! i never thought of it before but meditation, or day dreaming, pot smoking, beer, tv soaps & sitcoms, reading fiction are all escapes from reality, postponing real life and pretending ( a wise man once said chess was nothing but pretending you are doing something worthwhile while you waste time) you are doing something of value. one escapist lie no better, or worse , than all the others.
