Position:Home>Philosophy> Is sleep a dry run for death?

Question:In a sense I am sure you can say that sleep is practice for death... but this all depends on your personal religious and philosophical views. I sometimes wonder if when I awaken I am the same person as when I went to bed... and of course you are not, as every second of every day changes you. But it also makes you think about who you are in terms of a soul or consciousness.

If you believe you do not exist after death, then sleep is the closest thing you can get to experiencing it. Nobody hates sleep, but nobody knows what is going on while they are out. For you, nothing exists... your experience bubble is no longer operational. Is this death? Who knows. People can say they are not afraid of sleeping because they know they will wake up - but this is not a fact. Sleeping is not an objectionable state because you believe that you still exist. Remove this idea and it is about as close to death as you can get.

my sleep is juicy and wet

Yep, and if you sleep in a suit it is a dress rehearsal.

lol..if you sleep in a suit its a dress rehearsal..that's pretty funny.

I tend to think that sleep is just your mind's way of defragmenting and re-energizing in preparation for the next day.

Good question. But I think when the dentist gives you that amazing gas before a filling, that's the dry run for death. Not so bad!!!

Sleep is a fact.
Death is an idea.

sleep is not a dry run for death; listening to star jones flap her gums is

Wow that is scarry but no sleep is just a way to dream with the guy you like you know have these nice dreams nothing else and too relax ofcourse.

words, words. Let me try to explain it this way;

Sometimes or rarely, A (the body) has an open connection to B (higher self, soul). Throughout the whole of bodily life the connection exists but is on mute, so the connection is temporarily closed. Upon the so-called death of the body, the connection is permanently (or so it seems) closed.

By dry run you mean a practice. Practice for what? Upon physical death the higher self, soul, spirit, releases all that is negative or resistant and it is business as usual.

I said so-called death because there have been many cases that people were declared dead or brain-dead meaning no measureable activity and the individuals surprised the establishment by recovering.
As well, like in the case of my 23 year old son, in perfect health had slipped into something that was called a coma upon exiting from a Pink Floyd concert, declared brain dead, at which time they started to divy up his prime parts. All of these parts were in perfect shape and two years later they finally gave up trying to find a cause of death. It never occurred to them to state on the certificate that lack of vital organs could have been the actual cause of this physical death. Dry run? Cheers!

Not unless we really visit the "Astral Plane" in sleep. Does our soul leave our body?

Nope! It's a rejuvenation for daily life, enjoy it, the dreams could be inspiring, thrilling and exhilarating.

what dreams may come.......dreams may one day form you heaven or your hell.
