Think of Superman--the true Superman does not allow a corrupt society to create his values. He creates them himself. In his point of view, he is divorcing himself from the influence of others and is thus disaffected by "pity, suffering, tolerence of the weak, the power of the soul over the body, the belief in an afterlife, or the corruption of modern values." (http://personal.ecu.edu/mccartyr/great/p... His adament disassociation from his society (the family) is the basis of his vow of silence; however, the ironic part of this vow is that he has it wrong: the superman is supposed to enjoy life and being (for there is no soul or afterlife--you make the most of the one you have here and now). Furthermore, "suppression tends to undermine an individual making him sickly and weak physically and psychologically." (http://www.msu.edu/user/bradle45/nietzsc... This irony is what makes the movie so wonderful--every single person in the movie has a belief or conviction that is absolutely wrong. The real star of the movie--the only one that possesses the "right" idea is the little girl. There are a lot of good sites on the Superman--when you read them, you will be able to compare the boy's actions to Nietzche's philosophy, and you will get a good laugh at the boy's misinterpretation. Also, think Plato. The SUN = true, God, Good, light. Little Miss Sunshine is the name of the contest, but the little girl is SUN--
