Absence of existence.

"Reality is that which exists; the unreal does not exist; the unreal is merely that negation of existence which is the content of a human consciousness when it attempts to abandon reason."

"If nothing exists, there can be no consciousness: a consciousness with nothing to be conscious of is a contradiction in terms. A consciousness conscious of nothing but itself is a contradiction in terms: before it could identify itself as consciousness, it had to be conscious of something. If that which you claim to perceive does not exist, what you possess is not consciousness."

Maja wrote: "the state of being nothing."
Absence of something cannot, by definition, be a state. A "state" is a quality. That which has no existence can have no quality, e.g., a non-existent horse can be neither painted or white. A non-existent hamburger cannot be in the "state" of containing heat.

It doesn't exist so the question is moot and deep at the same time.

well nothingness is like

causal meaning:
the state of being nothing.
something that is nonexistent;lack of being; nonexistence; unconsciousness or death
philosophical meaning:
utter insignificance, emptiness, or worthlessness; triviality;something insignificant or without value.

The absence of material forms.

It isn't really nothing but it is what the word refers to.

Something we cannot imagine. As we are something (which is limited in many ways), the opposite of nothing (which is limitless) we cannot even try to describe it, as we have absolutely no factual concept of it. In the same way we cannot describe infinity, we cannot describe nothing.

The closest humans have come to describing nothing is 0, but then even to our minds 0 appears to be something, in this case a lack of presence of an item/concept. After all this, I expect everyone to be confused, as should be, because we know nothing about nothingness.

Human conceptual absolute identifying the absence of anything.

Absolutes do not exist in nature which is why the number 0 and infinity are considered to be non-natural numbers. They "exist" in mathmatical contexts and no where else.

Nothingness is best describe as this. Close your eye, stick your fingers in you ear to plug up any outside noise. Now if your imagining something stop. just keep your eyes close the look at the black darkness do you hear anything, if so plug up you ear more and shut out any outside noise. and keep imagining darkness or black. and that is nothing.

The state of nothingness before God is the source of our real and very great power. When we are nothing, we become an empty vessel which can be filled with the powers and attributes of God. We become a hollow reed from which the pith of self has been blown so that we may be a channel through which the love of God may flow through to others. Nothingness is another word for total humility, which ironically makes us god-like and indestructible. However the second our ego edges back in to take over our self-effacement, we lose that amazing power.
