Are people natually good or naturally evil?

I'm in high school still,
and I had to go pee
...wow that sounds really dumb in a philosophy question...
I digress though
anyway,
I was walking back to my applied communications,
and I saw a five dollar bill on the ground.

I would have taken it,
but I'm a nonchalant kind of person about that...
I say to myself,
what if it has a rope on the end of it, and I pick it up and someone pulls it away...
I'll look like an idiot...
and if I took it, I could keep it, and be doing something wrong, stealing even,
or I could bring it to the office,
tell them that I found it,
and look like a hero.
but I didn't,
I walked past it,
which is partially the wrong thing to do,
but the point is,
I walked past it...
not because I physically couldn't go over and pick it up,
it's because I choose not too.
and that's the good thing about humans,
ya know?
we choose.
we can be evil one day, mass homicidal maniac evil,
and then we can choose to turn it all around and be like "holy ****, what did I do" and try to make it right,

it's called impulse,
it's called choice,
and it's called responsibility,
and they are all traits possessed by a human being.

We are naturally both. Everyone is capable of doing anything when pushed by extreme conditions.

People are born innocent and taught to be evil.

WELL I'M HUGE ON PSYCHOLOGY ESPECIALLY CRIMINAL PSYCHOLOGY. ITS ALL IN THE CHILDHOOD BAD CHILD BAD ADULT. MENTALLY ILL PEOPLE ARE BORN WITH ILLNESS AND IT MIGHT LEAD TO VIOLENCE SO YES AND NO. MAINLY NO BECAUSE YOUR CHILDHOOD LITERALLY SCULPTS YOUR MENTAL STATUS IN ADULTHOOD.

i think we are born naturally good. i think that the things we do will mold us into a good or bad person.

naturally neutral...in the hunter gatherer society they went on the good of the tribe but there wasnt a good or evil yet....now in todays world it is still the same it just depends on if you have good influences or bad

Would the most evil person in the world give his child a rock if it asked for a piece of bread. There is always some good in everyman but we may not see it but God can. The most Holy of Men has some evil but Jesus forgives. There will be a man who is born evil, most will not see it and follow blindly. Pray he does not rise to power in your life for he is born.

Men, as all animals, are born with an instinct to survive. Whether is by good or evil means does not matter. Throughout history, man naturally constructed social contracts amongst them for the common good.

While survivalism teaches us to gather the most food and let others starve so we can ultimately survive(evil), the brains nature gave us also gave us the natural instinct to know that if we share some food(good) then we'll have "friends" to help protect the food from others you don't want to share with(evil).

You could make an argument that all actions are selfish in nature(since the actual goal is survival of one's self). Even charitable acts such as giving away money serve(while charitable) also serve to make us feel good about ourselves and our life's purpose(selfish whether or not that was the intention.)

That doesn't mean being selfish is evil though. Or else giving away to charity would be evil... and everyone knows its not!

While it may be pessimistic, I believe that people are born neither. Strictly neither. If all people were indeed born good, why do we need laws to guide us? However, if people were indeed born evil would not every society need to be totalitarian? All people are ultimately motivated by self-gain, and will do both good and evil things.

Good or evil? That's a matter of definition. We all want to survive or our children shall survive. Sometimes we act for and sometimes against the society. We just do what is best for us.

The question is: Are people naturally sensible or not?

People are born neutral because no one has taught them anything yet, then, as they grow up, they learn how to be "evil" or good and they choose the side they will take. It is usally a mix of both.

I would say that all of us from birth have a balance of both within us. Even the innocence of childhood is often marred with the cruelity of childhood. As a child grows he has to be taught wrong from right and each society has a different viewpoint of that belief.

Instinct drives us to survive From the get go . It is through human interaction that we become good or bad ?

Both. Compare somebody like Hitler to Mother Theresa. I believe that some people, such as Hitler, are inherently evil and that some, like Mother Theresa, wouldn't know how to be evil. Some are good, some are bad. Sometimes life deals us a certain hand that that ultimately seals our fates as to how we end up. People can come from the same parents, the same family, and turn out complete and total opposites.
