Position:Home>Philosophy> How do you ever find yourself?? how do you know truly??

Question:well, i don't really get the words ''finding yourself'', you can define yourself from your family like your ethic and religion. sports hobbies, characteristics, personal qualities. some people say it takes your whole life to figure out who you were, but i think those things are pretty easy to figure out. why do people say it takes your whole life. what is it truly and know do you know

This is something I have wondered about as well. I don't understand when people say I need to take some time to find out who I truly am. I am like what? I believe you just are who you are; there is nothing to figure out. Me I know who I am, I am simply me. You can never figure out who you "truly" are anyway because people are constantly changing.

These types of things are very ambiguous and can mean different things; truthfully, its usually said by people who have no idea what they are talking about. I personally believe that you can never 'find yourself' because you are constantly interested in different things and think about different ideas. So to truly 'find yourself' you have to be a horrible done of a human being. This is kind of what Hume said; in a retort to René Descartes who said he existed because he thinks, 'I think, therefore I am'. So if you want more information about it read stuff by Hume and Descartes.

i thought we were all exactly the same eccept for our living situation.., and after we find every new thought we get before death then w3e would be bored and whant to find out about our selves,. i do know none of us are better than god lyke i am so thanks for the inquiry

I agree with the first guy! You can never find yourself if your still living and growing, you don't stop growing til the day you die!

Yeah, "finding oneself" presupposes a weird sort of worldview, one in which one's true self has somehow become lost and hidden.

When you establish the principals you live by and will not deviate ever from them . This establishes you as your own self .

Um well when you feel content with who you are as a person and you're not trying to be someone or something else that's when you've "found yourself".

I found myself at 14 so it doesn't take your whole life.

Your self is defined by other people and by yourself. You don't get to choose how others define you. But you do get to choose how you define yourself.

i think you find yourself by first reflecting on the person that you are now. see the things that you already like and enhance them. see the things that can use some changes and change them. know the things that you want and act as if, feel as if, think as if and you soon you will forget you are acting and just be. i don't think it is about being lost or knowing everything. its about becoming exactly who you want to be.
