looooool
theyre all wierd sayings you're right.
wake up dead i never heard of this saying.

yeah. i think they mean it in an expression type of way to let you know how they feel but not literally.

They're oxymorons. It's like dodge/ram. or jumbo shrimp

People don't make sense :]

They all mean something that's not literally what they mean wake up dead your just tired, half a mind your not bright or you made a stupid decision, and the last one if I got a penny for everytime I heard this means they are sick of hearing this.

They aren't philosophical statements; they're various literary devices. I don't think I've ever heard the first one; maybe you're confusing it with another expression. The second one is a type of word picture, using the metaphor of "mind" as an expression of desire, and "half" to indicate a degree (possibly exaggeratedly low) of that desire--as if the mind could be quantified and divided that way. The third expression can be a form of hyperbole. You're expressing that something happens so often, that even if you multiplied that number of occasions by a small quantity of money, it would add to a large amount of money (with no reference to the quantity of coins--just the wealth that they add up to).

I think you are suffering from the disease of literalism.

Language is not mathematics.
