Position:Home>Philosophy> What is your concept of the self?

Question:One of my "gifts" often makes me unpopular because I don't hear what people say or embrace the facades that they present to me. Sometimes I speak directly to their underside and they either think I'm psychic or that I'm some sort of destructive person.

The "self" as defined by the consensus is only a projection of character motifs that an individual cognizance has chosen to wear at a given time. It, like many manifestations of the intellectual process, is an icon. People will never be able to collectivly be "naked souls" when dealing with each other becuase that part of the human being is often to abstract for definition by the average person...- it's part of the car engine, not the pretty body work, and most people are not mechanically inclined.

My concept of self is that my objective is to help the children. I believe I am goal oriented, logical, and totally different from all the rest! I like me, and I like that I was never deterred from what I believe in.

I have many. I think each individual has many sides of theirselves as well.

id,ego,super ego

I think any one realizes his/her self by the achivements made by oneself!
Achievements are only made when there is a goal.
Goals can be physical or spiritual.
but when ever you do achive something you feel that you exist and have some importance. Even as I answer this question I am achieving a goal of providing my view to the question and i realize that I have a self!

nature and nurture obviously
as for the "true self", there is no such thing, we change all the time

the self cannot be a concept, an idea, a thought... it is not an object, it is the subject.
