Position:Home>Philosophy> What are the most basic of all universals.?

Question:Anna Wierzbicka has compiled a list of what she calls semantic primes, culled from 50 or so widely different languages. The implication is that they go way, way, back. Here they are:

I, YOU, SOMEONE, SOMETHING, PEOPLE
THIS, THE SAME, OTHER
ONE, TWO, SOME, MANY/MUCH, ALL
GOOD, BAD, BIG, SMALL
THINK, KNOW, WANT, FEEL, SEE, HEAR
SAY, WORD
DO, HAPPEN, MOVE, ALIVE
NOT, MAYBE, CAN, BECAUSE, IF
WHEN, NOW, AFTER, BEFORE, A LONG TIME, A SHORT TIME
WHERE, HERE, ABOVE, BELOW, FAR, NEAR, SIDE, INSIDE
VERY, MORE
KIND OF, PART OF
LIKE

Now that alone is amazing, but it doesn’t stop there. As we continue to build our conceptual systems there is very little splitting off. And any differences from person to person mostly deal with cultural and regional quirks.

This phenomenon is the basis for what becomes known as the problem of universals.

The need for food and water . Next clothing , shelter and comfort . But above all none of this is important with out individual freedom .

freedom- (assuming food n water is provided by nature)

irony is, u realise the value of freedom only when you are imprisoned . .

Too much is better than not enough.

A is A----A thing is what it is.(Ayn Rand)

It varies and is all based on perception.

Love and blessings Don

love and karma....

Well, in the history of philosophy, people called this God. Nowadays, people would say that the most basic of human universals (since people aren't interested in the big universals anymore) are freedom and justice for all.

Although, there are some people who believe in casual dependency, so they would say that 'physics' is the greatest universal, since the laws of science control everything.

An "axiom" is the most basic.

"An axiom is a statement that identifies the base of knowledge and of any further statement pertaining to that knowledge, a statement necessarily contained in all others, whether any particular speaker chooses to identify it or not. An axiom is a proposition that defeats its opponents by the fact that they have to accept it and use it in the process of any attempt to deny it."

"An axiomatic concept is the identification of a primary fact of reality, which cannot be analyzed, i.e., reduced to other facts or broken into component parts. It is implicit in all facts and in all knowledge. It is the fundamentally given and directly perceived or experienced, which requires no proof or explanation, but on which all proofs and explanations rest.

"The first and primary axiomatic concepts are "existence," "identity" (which is a corollary of "existence") and "consciousness." One can study what exists and how consciousness functions; but one cannot analyze (or "prove") existence as such, or consciousness as such. These are irreducible primaries. (An attempt to "prove" them is self-contradictory: it is an attempt to "prove" existence by means of non-existence, and consciousness by means of unconsciousness.)"

Basic Needs--1. food & water (un poluted air) to eliminate hungry and compensate the life energy spent by action.
2.clothes & residence to prevent loss of life energy due to weather change.
3.Fecilitate to excrete unwated waste ( sweat,urine&shite) & surpless waste (sex0 .
Protection From--1.natural calamities 2.other living beings 3.acidents.
The above six common to all living beings.
The following are also required along with the abovestated one for human beings:
Virtuous way of life-1.morality,2.duty & 3.charity
Faclity to develope consciousness--Through three stages:
1.Worshipping- following othrs shown path.
2 Understanding the law of nature & following a correct path with awareness.
3.Total development of consciousness-Achieving the selfrealisation(God consciousness?).

uncertainty, dualism, instinct, freedom, compassion, and prayer just to name six off the top of my head.
There may be more. Nothing is as it seems
