Question:Why do the ones that we love take us for granted...?

The question to me is a misconception. In unconditional love, you are never taken for granted. You may not be recognized for the little things everytime you do them, but you are appreciated. I use the analogy of children. I rarely here the thank you's for the little things, but I know for sure that they love me. I always ask this question when I hear that, "When was the last time you appreciated your lover for the little things they do?". That usually brings things into light. If there is no affection shown from the other, then you must ask, "Is this really love?". As I said in the begining love is never taken for granted.

Maybe they know we love them so they feel safe doing it.
For some reason it's common to show more respect to strangers than to people we're close to.

Because we allow it to happen

Yes that's correct but /and that makes love grow more stronger.

Because they haven't understood what love is. They don't know that love is something to nurture and return intact. It's a gift and should be given as well freely.

..because they feel assured that we won't leave them.

They take for granted that it will always be there .
