Position:Home>Philosophy> Which cliché upsets you most?

Question:"Everything happens for a reason", when people say that and they mean nothing rational whatsoever, its just a way to say "que sera, sera", and shrug your shoulders. People can get themselves off the hook for anything by telling themselves that. I back-stabbed my best friend... don't feel guilty, everything happens for a reason.

If people want to talk about free will vs. determinism that's another thing, but mean something rational when you say "everything happens for a reason". Otherwise its just an open-ended excuse for literally anything.

What is a cliche?

lol. its drastically overused.

girls on the internet desperately trying to charm guys

when people say "blonde moment" or "oops im having a blonde day" thats annoying. im not even blonde but i think that saying is stupid. everybody says it...its just gay

I don't want to tell you that I told you, but I told you...

Grrrr!!!!

Merci!!! =D

"50 lashes with a wet noodle" has always bugged the crap out of me.

its nice to be important but its important to be nice........which is normally used by pompous people who aren't in the slightest bit nice

pull yours socks up

Perception is reality. It's a more modern one but gaining way too much popularity. You hear it everywhere. Perception is not reality, perception is the lie agreed upon and obscures reality.

You didn't list any. Give me a list of upsetting cliches and I'll pick one.

" Thats gay"
I hate it when people say that

when people I don't know say, she looks like a typical white girl. This is so rude. Plug in any other race in there and it becomes a racial slur. But typical white girl is not a racial attack. i think it is.

when we all get tarred with the same brush.

Life is the truth and death and tax. I hate it. What it is I don't know

Currently, it's when one of the couples on one of the property programmes says "I don't know, it just doesn't have the WOW factor" - as if it was an incredibly clever thing to say and they'd just made it up - this has now become a very tired cliche.

"To die for..." didn't mean much when it started but means nothing at all now.

Also the same phrases trotted out over and over again on those Pop Idol type shows -"living the dream", "you owned the stage", "Made the song your own", "You nailed it" etc.

My bad.

Where the hell did that come from? My boss uses it and I guess she means "My fault" or "my mistake" but why doesn't she say so in proper English?

Fortunately, I don't know anyone else who uses it. Irritating enough from one source.

OMG!
This one:
"That which does not kill you only makes you stronger!"
I HATE THAT ONE!
Personally, I think it's a crock of Sh*t~
Thanks for asking.

"It's not the cough that'll carry you off but the coffin they'll carry you off in."

"Hey guys, just live for the moment"

What does that mean?

No offence, but...

(If they have to say this, it is clearly offensive. If you feel you have to say something unpleasant, at least say it straight.)

"if I were you .....I would do ......." Nobody is like anyone else.
It is an infuriating phrase.

"With all due respect..." said right before they slam you.

I really sick of hearing "at the end of the day..."

I'm not being funny, but ...

The phrase "I'm an expert"
