Position:Home>Philosophy> Would you rather be happy or be right?

Question:Well my friends mom and me were talking about how my brother can get into an argument over anything and EVERYTHING. Well she said, "there is this quote that says Would you rather be happy, or be right" Well i was wondering, would YOU rather be happy or be right? Answer this question before reading on please.

Well having said that, would you rather be happy or be right making an ATOMIC BOMB. What if the calculation you had was right, and another scientist was arguing that he was right. Well on one hand that you are right, the atomic bomb goes to the place and does what it should.

Now being happy, the EXACT same bomb goes, and explodes over AMERICA. Now you were happy that you got to be happy by making him happy. Well now THOUSANDS of AMERICANS are DEAD.

I'm not saying it's a good thing to blow up other places, it's a HORRIBLE THING. but I'm just saying, what if we were at war with them. When we blew up the Japanese, I heard of no americans crying. we blow up americans they cry.

Well I'm always right, so I'd rather be happy. People who don't listen to me have ended up screwing up their lives, doing stupidness or just getting into trouble. That or even with the little things they just ne dup saying I wish I had listened to you,an dI just give them a dead stare or smirk and sometimes say duh...

The problem it that I'm the youngest child of three siblings and one of the youngest in the whole big family(though a lot more little ones are coming along from other fam members), so when I say things folks just look at me like ha I'm older than you I know what I'm doing, because I've been on earth longer and you're just the youngin'...lol... It's funny the look on their faces when they realize they messed up by not listening makes me laugh, even though it's mean to laugh at them...I may be only 26, but I know a lot more than folks think.

So yea I'd rather be happy because I'm so lost in this world and want to be truly happy for the first time in probably 12 or so years. Being right is cool and all, but after a while you start to get tied of folks not listening to a point where you don't care if they do or don't care what you say and let them screw things up on their own without saying anything to prevent things from happening, since they won't listen anyway...

I guess it all depends on the situations are in, because in some cases you want to be right, but in others you'd rather be happy. Things may go wrong if you are rght or happy depending on the situation, but at this point I just want to be happy.

Happy. I'm wrong too often to take it seriously.

I'd rather be totally happy and wrong, then filled with sadness and right.
[in a general way]

what if i had proof the world would end tomorrow? I'd rather be wrong and happy that the world wouldn't end; then to be right and have the world end....not so happy.

I'd rater be right. There is only one degree to right; right. Whereas happy on the other hand; you can be blindly happy or you could be truely a happy person. Being right is a garentee, and i find happyness through being right.

HaPpY!!

The more one understand the truth of the world, and the nature of man, the more cynical and bitter he becomes,

My point is this: don't worry about truth vs happiness, its never a choice anyways

I'm happy when I'm right, but then again ignorance is bliss.

Sometimes you have to be happy to be right. Sometimes you have to be right to be happy. As most questions in "philosophy," this one is overbroad. But indeed, I am always happy to be right, and right to be happy.

I think the trick is to find people who don't make you choose. That may sound trite, but in fact it is the key to love.
