Personally I love all these conspiracy theories, its always made me curious, but none are ever true.

If you remember when we all went into the year 2000 there was the fear the world would end (Y2K).
Then June 6th 2006 apparently the devil would return (06/06/06).

In 2012 The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, will end, and many believe THIS time round will be Armageddon.

I still find it intresting though.

In 2012, I will go to work, pay taxes and be over charged for gasoline - just like 2008. If you are talking about the nut cases that are predicting the end of the world based on some stupid Mayan calendar - don't join their dementia.

i dont know much about there theories except that the world is supposed to end. i had someone tell me that the romans made a calender that predicted events and the last year they did was 2012. i dont know if thats true or not but i dont believe it.

According to the Mayan Calendar and various conspiracy theorists; the world will end in 2012, when a huge comet collides w/ earth.

Funny thing is that astronomists have predicted that a comet will pass very close to earth in 2012, but will not actually collide. I wonder it will do to our planets gravitational pull though?

Not sure, just that I know there is planetry alignments that were predicted in precise details by various peoples. the incas, egyptions and christians all foretell disaster. theres something in budhist and/or hindu thought that says its the end of a cycle (they believe in cyclic time). The chinese Tao Te Ching and I Ching also predict simular things.

Nostrodamus used complicated astronomy AND astrology to come to the same conclusions.

If the world isn't going to end, then astronomers are going to have fun with their telescopes!

Well, hopefully more changes for the better. You know, like the war has stopped (prob before that), major attempts have been doubled to fight global warming, more animals are brought from the edge of extinction, crime rates go a record down, no more silly people running the country or state....i can't think more than this, if only all the above could happen...IMAGINE

Life will carry on as it is doing now, despite 2012 being predicated as the end of the world by some people. I've lived through the "End of the World" about 4 times since I was born. It's a bit like the "boy who cried wolf".

It will be a leap year consisting of 366 days..... all else that would happen is of course uncertain...... in the past, there have been many many similar predictions of disasters, not one of them did come true though. How naive for anyone to believe that the doomsday can be predicted!! What is more relevant is that whenever it comes, everything would be over and none of us would be left alive to face the music... so what's the big deal?

well 2012 is said to be the year the poles switch and that is ssaid to cause total catastrophe all over the global. with this information many religions have predicted that this will mark the end of our existence. the poles are said to switch every few thousands maybe millions (not many know the number) years.
its all religions dogma most religious prophets of our time have been wrong on numerous occations so its nothing to worry about

Hi Wednesday Jester, There is a lot of information and lots of disinformation on the Net about 2012. I noticed several answers included a Comet and they are right on the money! Only thing is it won't be 2012 as 2012 is here now! The Japanese Astronomers are watching an Earth size Planet coming into our solar System right now! This why the World Astronomers are heading back to Antarctica in May-June as there is a short window of opportunity to observe what is coming in from the South! We have had large planetary comets come into our Solar system before! I would recommend Velikowskis' Ages in Chaos or Worlds in chaos! You may want to read the books of Zechariah Sitchen-The Twelfth Planet! Laurence Gardner-Genesis of the Grail Kings! All of the books tell about Planetary size comets that have come into our Solar system and the destruction that they brought with them!

The Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world in 2012. I can't tell you how many predictions of the imminent demise of the world there have been - thousands at least - and they have all been wrong.
So unless we are smacked by a huge asteroid, here is what will happen in 2012: The Sun will appear to rise in the East and set in the West. There will be 4 seasons in the Northern and Southern hemispheres. It will rain and snow and get hot. People will have babies, get married ,kill each other, entertain each other, work, invent things and crack jokes.
