Position:Home>Philosophy> Does the word absurd have a connotation of "wrongness" or negitivity?

Question:In many contexts, the word "absurd" does have negative connotations. When a purported statement of fact is "absurd," it's false and ridiculous. When a plan is "absurd," it's unworkable and ridiculous. When we call life "absurd," we're saying that it's pointless and dominated by arbitrary whims of fate.

But when it comes to humor, the word "absurd" can have a good connotation. Cartoons by Charles Addams, Gahan Wilson, and Gary Larson are absurd, but that's why they're so funny.

I've even heard the phrase "delightfully absurd" used in connection with books and movies.

A synonym is ridiculous -- few people want to e thought of as ridiculous.

It could potentially have a negative connoatation depending on the context, but the word just by itself has no such negativity

yes. plain and simple, it means that something is completely wrong and whoever thought of it is proposterous.

Not necessarily, but I think it is often took in that way. I often use it to get across how rediculous i think something is.

but I do think this dictionary definition holds it to a negative light=
