Position:Home>Philosophy> Philosophy not offered in school...?

Question:I am taking school online. I asked if they had philosophy. They said that they didn't and don't plan to either. I am crazy about philosophy. Why wouldn't they have it. Do they think it's evil or something?

It's just not a very popular subject i guess. I'm taking it in uni and it is much smaller than my other lectures. If you want to learn about philosophy then just go borrow some books on it from the library. The one i was prescribed is Practical Ethics by Peter Singer, and papers by various people including Judith Jarvis Thomson. If you look up philosophy on Wikipedia it should give you some idea on who to research. We also looked at the trolley problem, if you're interested in that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_pro...

Probably because philosophy isn't the sort of subject you can learn online.

my father is a philosophy teacher and he teaches at san jac and im only 11 and go there all the time . and they probly do think its evil.

in colleges and universities philosophy is pretty standard. in highschools, junior high, elementary school, it's not. they just want to get the basics covered so you can get a job. if you're taking an online course for college and they don't offer philosophy, you might reconsider your choice in institutions, especially if philosophy is a major part of your life.

it is mine, but I was a theology major. questions about spirituality often lead to ontological discussions, questions of what and why we exist, etc, however, and that's how I ended up loving the philosophers. Makes you wonder why everyone isn't interested, but you'll never find Descartes in a cart at Walmart.. (ha ha. I just made that up.)

Philosophy is all but dead, neuroscience and theoretical physics is where we seek our answers nowadays.
