Question:You can't control your emotions and anyway you wouldn't want to. Emotions are the stuff our entire experience of life is made of. To remove emotion would be to go numb, flat, feelingless. After sex and food, there would be nothing left. No reason to live. You'd kill yourself in ten days. And rightfully so.

But, you can and should control your behavior. That's different. If something fills you with rage, there's no help for you. It's like being stung by a bee. For that moment in time, you must suffer being filled with rage. But even though you may want to lash out at the person who enraged you, you still should think about that. Cause nine times out of ten that's the wrong thing to do and will just further your trouble.

so in that sense, you can't let your emotions "control" you, meaning your behavior. but they do "control" how you feel in any given minute, and we're better off for it, even with the moments of distress that emotions bring.

mind is more powerful than the heart.

the mind knows but the heart often confuses.

It is best to have a balance of the two where there are no control issues.

I guess it saying that you shouldnt do something in situation without thinking that will make you regert the outcome.
kinda like selfcontroll.

If you were in control of your emotions all the time, you would be a robot. Emotions are part of the human experience.

An emotional mess is not a pleasant sight. Reserve is as good a virtue as common sense, though neither are that common any longer.

Emotionality is powerful, but it can impair judgment just as bad as substances can. It is better to be in control, so you can make better decisions and to stay optimistic in those dark hours.

Letting depression get the best of you, love, jealously, hate, envy, and any other emotion that may make someone act irrational.

Emotions can not controll any thing. Emotions are concepts that people have given to evolutionary hiccups in our mind.

Principals before personalities, living by a spiritual nature rather than an ego, self centered one, will work if you apply it on a daily basis.Inventory your thoughts and actions at the end of each day.Try to improve on a daily basis...things will get better.

Control your emotions....don't let your emotions win a small battle when the huge battle of life can be long. If you cave to your emotions, you don't learn anything but giving in.

"ohh boo hoo my day was terrible I am gonna cry"

give in, cry, maybe feel better

"you know what. my day was terrible, I am not going to cry and waste good energy on tears, I am going to make sure my day is better tomorrow, brush myself off and try again...I would much be happier knowing I tried rather then giving in to an emotion.

Emotions are an aspect of our mental life. Our emotions help us to make decisions, whether positive or negative. They are what make life worth living, or sometimes ending. Our postive emotions like love, helping others, patience etc enhances our life but our negative emotions like anger, hatred, revenge unless controlled, will destroy us! So it is better to control our emotions
than to let them control our mind!

First of all no one can control their emotions otherwise they would be called controlled conditioned responses. That is why the word emotion is so strong. Otherwise it wouldn't be a concept worth debating. You cannot control how something makes you feel, it is all relative to who we are and how strong we are as individuals. Yes in a perfect world it would be better to control our emotions, but only in a flawed world would we strive to have total control. Otherwise we wouldn't even care about such a question. Sometimes our natural reactions are the best, after all we all are here to take care of ourselves so why wouldn't following your natural instinct be a good thing. Ten times out of ten if your gut is telling you something is rotten in denmark it usually is, would that not be based on your emotions. Understanding the differences between these two only improves your emotional state which is really just the beginning. You cant really have one without the other and both are equally important, sometimes rational thought is a necessity and sometime reacting off the cuff is right. Anyone out there that has control over all their emotions let me know your secret and not how I should try harder. If you think you control your emotions all the time your are only fooling yourself. If reading that makes you want to respond then realize I just fooled you and maybe you don't have control of yours.

Amen!

As long as you don't foolishly think that just because you mastered them today, they won't master you again tomorrow.

For societal purposes, it is better to control your emotions. For spiritual/experimental purposes it is better to be controlled by them.
