How did ancient philosophers earn their lving?

Question:I mean i know Plato and Aristotle are recognised as great Philosophers today but how did they actually earn their living when they were alive, did people actually employ them just to think?

They were often employed by Royalty/nobility/kings etc as advisors.

Philosophers back then were also scientists, mathmeticians astronomers etc, so they were basically hired as consultants.

Also, philosophers were literate which was a rare thing.

Even today, exceptional thinking capability gets rewarded the most.... physical work is one of the least rewarded activity.

That had other side jobs. Maybe they created laws or ran governments or taught.
