"tell me the sound of one hand clapping"! old zen technique, zen koan to come to enlightenment. once you come from sound to soundlessness, from words to wordlesness, once you are in the placeless place, beyond name and form, you have entered the truth.

That's a trick question, because you need two hands to make a clap. You tried to fool me ... better luck next time :P

Yes it will make a sound if I am there or not. To be conscious of any existent the existent exists prior to consciousness. So no matter what I feel, wish, or dream the clapping even if with one hand is independent of me and will "act" within its nature.

Yes--- sound will make.
Are you going to scool, it is one of basic thing, fizics laws

Yes, just no receiver.

the sound of silence requires all death!
are you the daddy for that?

No.there is no sound because there is no one to nither hear it nor proof that it was clapped in the first place.

it needs two hands to clap. anyway sound is independent of human existence. the various types of sounds are produced in environment irrespective of any one listening or not.

OK- you need two hands to "clap", the usual meaning of which is "to strike the palms of one's hands togheter". However, you can also use one palm to strike other parts of the body. Anyway, the one who claps should be able to hear the sound !

However,

The main point of the question is this: If a sound is made, but there is no one to hear it, is there still a sound ?
The "a sound" implies that some wave engery strikes the ear drum, so that the engery is interpreted as "sound". As such there must be someone to hear the "sound", otherwise, there is no sound, but only the wave energy. However, in the question, the one who claps should be able to hear it, so there is a sound. If he or she is deaf, there there is no one else to hear it (to interprete the wave energy as "sound"), so there is actually no sound. i.e. Sound waves must first be interpreted as sounds for there to be sounds ! Sound waves is energy, not sound !

If you able to make sound with one hand, then there will be a sound for ever.

sound doesn't require proof. It's merely vibration and whether someone observes it or not, it happens. There will still be vibration.
I didn't see the bird who left his mark on my car, but it's there nonetheless, so i know he was too.

Yes there is, the beautiful sound of silence.

Love and blessings Don

One hand clapping is difficult, but yes it makes a audible sound you may here or not. Sound waves are frequencies, the Bass line, some people DON'T REALIZE THIS, travels the farthest. Example a Elephant produces a Bass line that Humans cannot hear. It's there, but we wouldn't know. Back on Bass in cars. If you can afford the system. Put some fregging Foam in the trunk, since you annoy me and make me wish I had "the Box." Or really, a tiny EMP device that will kill everything electric in it's wake!

A slight compression wave.
