If truth is the most convincing opinion, it's because truth is, and not "merely" a "convincing opinion". The truth is convincing because it is the truth. God Bless you.

that statement is true...truth doesn't need to be convincing because it is based on factual evidence...it is simply absolute....factual evidences can not be opinions....

maybe that was a poor analogy? I don't know I'd like to see another one that would show what the thought process behind that is though

You bring up an excellent point

VVVVVVVVVVVV
"if i say the moon is made of cheese would you take that as fact or would you believe the people that say that it isnt? i would believe the people that say that it isnt because it is more convincing but does that make it factual and true?"

if you are coming at it from an angle of perception or unraveling the rationality to discover the truth which may not be known but conjectured among people.....then I guess in that context you are right........You can say I am left handed and They will say that I am right handed but you will debate what the truth is. People will then assume that I am right handed because they have seen me write with my right hand....they don't know for sure but it is their opinion.....It is true but it isn't known to anybody except myself (assuming no one knows)

but what about this?

This statement is false.

^^^^^^^^

Is that the truth?

No! Truth is factual, real and true, anything else is NOT truth and comes under a multitude of titles. Lies, deceit, fallacy, pretension, ETC
Unless you can show me proof that what you say is Truth there is no FACT. fact is evidence, proof is truth, then it becomes truth. truth is absolute when there is proof, proof is absloute when there is truth. don 't you think?

No, it's undefinable and opinion and belief has to be given up to find Truth. It's outside of thought and the mind, you have to find it yourself.

Truth is logic explained to the ignorant.

The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.

What people think the truth is becomes the truth for them when propaganda masquerades as truth but were they to face it they might not accept it. There is also a truth people know which is that they do not have to go to war but they prefer the lie as war holds fascination. The people of the world know they control the planet and all they have to do is decide everyone has a right to it and most war is over. The problem is is that there are people around that fear punishment for what they have done during wars and so instigate more to stave off the punishment they fear.

Truth is the opposite of fallacy.
Truth must be communicated to be anything.
Truth is what is communicated when a being communicates what it honestly believes.

Therefore, if I believe that the world is flat, and I say, "The world is flat.", although I may not be correct, I have spoken the truth.

Truth is not the same thing as reality.

Truth is, most definitely not, merely the most convincing opinion.

The most convincing opinion is merely, the most convincing opinion.

ya

Truth is the way it really is, not merely an opinion.Truth is fact, not an idea, not a thought, but fact.

Uh, we have already been to the moon and brought back some moon rocks. That should prove to any reasonable person that it is not made of green cheese.

Harleigh Kyson Jr.

No truth means what a thing really is. Whether or not you or I or anyone has the means for determing what that may be, it still is what it is.

Your example of the moon being made of cheese, for example. I certainly don't know, never having been there and sampled it - I doubt it, it sounds ridiculous, but I don't KNOW. So I'd say in that case that I doubt it - but whether I doubt it or not, and no matter what it IS ultimately made of, it IS made of THAT. It is made of whatever it is made of.

So the truth of that does exist, independently of anyone's perception of it, agreeming with it, or even awareness of it.

There are two sources of "truth" for humans - scientific and political. For example, my kid is named Billy cause I named him that. My preference dictated that. I had the most influence and my opinion of the best boy's name was that. So it prevailed. But that he is male, is a scientific fact. No one's opinion changes that.

In political truths, such as who will be the president of the country, then yes, the loudest most convincing opinion dominates. But in scientific truths, it is what it is, even if the whole world disagrees.
