Position:Home>Philosophy> Is this a "good" theory on what happiness is?

Question:In response to a number of questions pertaining to the meaning and absurdity of life, I have formulated what I think is a good definition of happiness.

First I want to make some general assumptions that I will not prove here:

We (I) exist.
We (I) can experience happiness.
Absurdity is self purpose (existence simply to exist).
Our lives are absurd.

1. Happiness requires existence
2. Existence (as we know it) requires time. Therefore happiness requires time.
3. There is a difference between unhappiness and no happiness.
4. Unhappiness is a state of existence
5. No happiness is the lack of happiness.
6. No existence = no time = no happiness.
7. We can not be truly happy with the absurdity of life. What would be the point?
8. We are capable of being happy, therefore there must be times where there is not just absurdity. We will call these times "happy times".

I am anticipating disagreement on 7. If happiness is contemptuousness in absurdity, what is the point?

I am happy without contempt at absurdity - its beautiful.

yes I think we all construct our own absurd reasons to be cheerful.

I am happy whenever I think of chocolate, it makes me smile.

All of your assumptions don't matter.

Emotions come from the inside of each and every individual. External stimulus is interpreted by the brain, and responded to by the brain - the brain decides how it will respond.

Happy, sad, fear, love, whatever, these are choices that can be controlled.

Happiness comes from the inside, you chose to be it, or you don't. Simple as that.

To experience happiness requires existence, but happiness, ie, joy, ananda, is beyond existence or non-existence, and is our very nature.

Happiness is the inevitable result of two components: 1) love, and 2) decent behavior. Do those two things and happiness must follow - fail to do either and happiness can't occur. I don't know why this isn't more widely known.
