That guy was crazy.

I think he meant, based on his belief in nonviolence, that if we were to strike everyone who struck us, we'd basically maim one another literally. Violence only breeds violence. In the new testament of the bible, there is a reference to "an eye for an eye" that Jesus spoke of. He was also a practioner of nonviolence.

Gandhi meant violence is simply pointless because it like a fire that can't be put out and affects the entire world.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Turn the other cheek. Think before you act. No matter how you say it, they all mean the same thing. Does it make sense? Definately, unfortunately few listen and that's how the whole world would go blind. In some ways, it already is.

taking the life of someone because they took the life of someone else is a cycle...
he is saying that if you continue to take other's eyes... eventually there will be no eyes to take... the world will then be blind

He meant an "eye for an eye" was not a solution.

It means that whatever transgression is being retaliated against the retaliation of taking an eye will never stop until everyone in the world has lost their eyes. Retaliation never ends it eventually involves everyone.

I think that what Gandhi was getting at is this.....If everyone were to exact revenge on someone who done them wrong (taking an eye for an eye) then no one would be able to see the gift of forgiveness or the joy and freedom that it can bring, therefore rendering all blind.

if 2 wrong dont make a right then 3 rights make a left!!!!!!!!!!!
