Yes , and the degree is getting larger .

If you notice almost every store , mall , even traffic lights have a camera. There are ways to track your emails and where you go online. GPS systems that help you get somewhere but can track you. Credit cards are tracked. Even cell phones have location devices. We are there just not exactly like the movie.

RFID Baby!

As a longtime fan of scifi I can only pass on the words of Robert A Heinlein: "any society sophisticated enough to require ID ...." has already gone over the edge.

We The People created the Constitution, which creates Government, which hires bureaucrats.

GOD
MAN
CONSTITUTION
GOVERNMENT
BUREAUCRATS

That is the order of creation. Since we have mostly been to the government schools we were never taught that we the people are the enforcement clause in the constitution.

That's why the 2nd Amendment.
That's why the vote.

Even our founding fathers made it clear that when "established systems" no longer serve the need, they should be changed.

We The People need to take a hatchet to government, State and Federal, and hack off all parts which don't fit inside the Constitution. The resulting system would be streamlined and way way cheaper and more efficient.

Big Brother doesn't have to watch you so long as you are watching it. Turn off the TV. The revolution won't be televised.

In my humble opinion: 1984 and Big Brother are here and it's only getting worse. Everywhere you turn there are cameras recording your every move whether you realize it or not. The cameras set up in parking lots of the local Walmart as "security" cameras have the capability of panning and photographing an object (person) at a great distance. Police in our city are setting up camera sentinels in "High Crime Areas" supposedly only to deter criminals, but more and more of them are appearing in areas where street crimes are nearly non existent. They now have cameras that can photograph a car running a light or speeding, forgetting a turn signal etc and send a ticket to the driver. AT&T has complied with Homeland Security and made available recordings of phone calls that the parties making the call had no clue that the conversation was being recorded, I've read reports that virtually every phone call you make is potentially being recorded. The other day, I was at a electronics store and made my purchases and then realized I'd forgotten something, went back in got it and went to pay with the same credit card I'd used less than 10 minutes before and the register locked out the sale simply because I'd used the same credit card twice at the store in the same day! I wasn't able to get the item I'd forgotten apparently there was no way to override the lock out even though the card was good. We're not talking 1,000's of dollars here either the first purchase was less than $50 and the second under $20 the card was good it's just the "RULES". Have you tried to call a business to ask for the name of the person who is in charge of thus and so lately? Hypothetical scenario: you only need the name of the person within the company that performs or handles a specific task to send a mailing of information about a product that would potentially make thier job easier, nine out of ten tries will net you zilch. If you get a person instead of the maddening press 1 to hear this in English message, unless you already know the name of the party you will not be given a name, the receptionist will tell you that it's against policy to release employees names. What's up with that? It just amazes me how much things have changed since all the terroist hype of the Bush regime. So, Yes science fiction isn't fiction anymore, "Big Brother" is watching and listening and controlling every move you make.

No,I fear it is here, and will likely only get even more invasive. When I was a kid I never felt like my every move out in public was being recorded. Now when you go some place like a mall, you could be being recorded from the time you pull into the lot until you leave.I think it's terrifying that all our movements are being tracked.Every credit card purchase being filed and stored away. There really is no total privacy except in our own homes with the curtains pulled.
