When life is temporary, why do we want to achieve everything within our lifetime

Question:Why can't we be content with the fruits of heaven after our death and spend entire life of ours into helping others, bringing smiles on their sad faces, instead of building our own personal wealth?

First off, though that generalization is common, it isn't, believe it or not, always true. Second, most people think that better for yourself (greed) really is better for yourself. Helping others I'm sure will be more beneficial, but humans often fail to learn from mistakes millenia old. And finally, people want to make what they think is the best out of life. They often don't realize that success isn't how much money you have or anything material, but to put a smile on someone else's face. But often enough, by the time they are elderly, they will reflect on their life and realize what true success is and what true happiness is. And then, they will (often) do their best to content everyone and everything they see, from the grandchildren they have, to the birds in the park, to the simply putting a smile on the face of a customer at the supermarket. Also consider that not everyone believes in heaven, not everyone is going to heaven, and not everyone expects to go to heaven. I hope I helped somewhat.

Well, because life is for your enjoyment, there is no god and no heaven, and whatever you want to do you should do.

100 years to live is our temporary stay in this world. What we have to do and how we live now makes a whole lot of a difference in the quality of our life. Yes, some people want to achieve everything, maybe they are ambitious maybe they have a lot of money and have no clue what to do with it.
Some people are just greedy others may never be satisfied. There are a lot of reasons why they want to accomplish everything.
...then there are those that done care...

Well I think more people should adopt this philosphy because surely the world would be a better place. I think that a Higher Power created this world so beautifully for us to live in and enjoy until we reach heaven and that it is only those who don't realize the sweeter fruits are in heaven that constantly go after money with greed and jealousy. Having said, that, I don't think it is wrong, however, to work hard and earn a comfortable living so you can enjoy what you have been blessed with and turn around to give back to those less fortunate.

Because we don't know if we can once we die, most people regret what they didn't do then what they did.

Some of us are content building themselvs up! It is all in who you are.You cannoy deny yourself & if you are a giving person you will always be. No one can take that from you. The tears you wipe arent ever going to be in vain. One good deed covers a multitude of sins!
