Question:But how can we be absolutely sure?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: But how can we be absolutely sure?

"Reality is an absolute, existence is an absolute, a speck of dust is an absolute and so is a human life. Whether you live or die is an absolute. Whether you have a piece of bread or not, is an absolute. Whether you eat your bread or see it vanish into a looter's stomach, is an absolute. " [1]

"There are no absolutes," they chatter, blanking out the fact that they are uttering an absolute." [1] [said Chesney] [but Eric is not one of them. He knows there is at least one absolute.]

How can you be absolutely sure that when your stomach is empty and distended that is not an absolute?
How can you be absolutely sure that you were born?
How can you be absolutely sure that you asked this question?

"Thinking is not an automatic function. In any hour and issue of his life, man is free to think or to evade that effort."

So go ahead and evade the effort of knowing for sure that you were born, that Obama is running for President, that our young men are killed in two wars right now, and that you have the right to evade knowing these things anytime you want to evade them.

But if you evade the effort of knowing you can evade the effort, then you can never make the claim you can know nothing for certain.

So your best bet is to evade the effort of evading the effort.

There is one absolute - everybody dies.

apparently there is an absolute. the absolute that there is no absolutes.

Only death and taxes!

We'll absolutely have to try in order to find out.
