Position:Home>Philosophy> What is the difference between you, and your spirit/ soul???

Question:What is spirit?

Spirit is a integral aspect of the living being - It develops and grows - It influences the atmosphere in meetings or a place, when you meet someone, the mood within a person and so on.

For example:

“The feel of the city excited him“
“The concert gave me goose bumps”
"his emotional state depended on her opinion";
"he was in good spirits"

In short spirit or atman is the living animating core within each of us, the driving force behind all that we think, say and do.

Spirit relates not to matter. Spirit is of a substance totally alien to anything material. The spirit cannot be found in matter, because their nature and consistency are completely different from each other. Spirit originates from the high realms of the beyond, it is pure and immortal in its primeval form. However, spirit has the capacity to form and shape its environment by exerting a pressure on it. It is able to direct the process of movement in its surroundings, and in this way it animates the physical body that it dwells in.

It is also associated with "spiritism", with "occult practices", shamanism, meditation and psychic experiments as well as religion. Those who dabble in one or more of these fields are considered highly spiritual and advanced, since they are able to access realms that are closed off to those who are more intellectual. Spirits can be loving, harmless or dangerous, fleeting or powerful, discreet or haunting, helping or hurting. They can inhabitate places, memories, books, or people in the realm of spiritism.

What is soul?

Soul by definition is eternal and usually believed to preexist the body. The word "soul" refers not only to the immaterial part of man but the also material part.

The soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sapience, rather than the brain or any other material or natural part of the biological organism.

The "soul" is a horizontal view with the world. It is self-aware ethereal substance unique to a particular living being. Soul is thought to incorporate the inner essence of each living being, and to be the true basis for sentience.

In most religious realms souls are considered to be immortal and a part of the afterlife, but can vary somewhat within a given religion belief.

I hope this helps!

Keep in mind this is only a short definition and with both we can go on and on.

Your spirit and soul are your true convictions and the self you would be no matter how you were raised, where you live, etc. Your "self" is the material you, that needs food, water, physical needs.

none at all

Well, there really is no difference other than maybe sometimes you dont follow what your Spirit/Soul tells you. You are your own person but your soul IS you. So you are your soul and your soul is you!

"you" would be more your body and your organs and stuff and "your soul" would be how you think and who you are!
you take your soul with you to heaven and you leave "you" or your body back on earth under the ground!

hope this answers your question!

Some people believe that our bodies are just shells for our souls and when we die, we are just shedding our shell and our souls live on and may inhabit another shell later

this is a complicated question, but i'm Native American and so i can easily answer it, i just hope it makes sense to you.
your body is like your presence, your being, physical appearance and feelings combined.
you spirit is like your holder of happiness, sadness, or mood.
your soul is like whats really deep inside your heart. your soul will get you to Heaven if you believe in Jesus.

Your soul is kinda like your personality, and yuor spirit is like how cheerful u r.

My soul would fly away if the rest of me didnt keep it crammed inside. I like to think my soul is ruled by my heart and desires while I'm ruled by my brain and a slave to my emotions and my body. But whatev.

I think when people refer to "you" they mean your soul, your spirit, your essence in connection to your body so both of them. if you died and your family came to your open coffin they would likely not feel that "you" were in the coffin. they would probably know your BODY was there but not "you". when someone you love dies people tend to think "oh they arent there in the grave. theyre here in my heart. this would lead one to believe that "you" was another term for your essence.

I would say the ''you' is the Identity or concept of who you think u are (name, history, experience, race, title, roles etc...)
spirit which means wind, soul means breath, is the animating force that is the essence of one's being.

The difference between mortality and immortality, respectively.

For the person who has truly come to know and are at peace with themselves, they are one and the same.

Your 'soul' is True-your real being. 'You' are a combo of the screw-ups and crap you let the world see and think you are!

The are one in the same, your conscious

I think Rehab got it all

Pluto

I appear to be

a personality, an ego, and my soul has many. I live one ot these in this body-form. Each spirit furthermore has many souls.
I may at times be dispeased; the soul however is always pleased, storing up these experiences for their presentation to the Creator who knows itself thru us, its creatures. Everything may not always seem good, but all is well.

Great answer from REHABHAR.

You= will die & go back to the earth. Your "spirit", your pneuma is the part of yourself you extend outwardly. Your presence- you can project it. Your Soul= is the part of you that houses the spirit. It will leave your physical body when you depart this world. The embodyment of your spirit. I hope that dosent sound goofy. Its the best way I can describe my understanding.
