Position:Home>Philosophy> If you could live forever, would you want to? Or is being mortal beautiful?

Question:It would bring immediate happiness (for example, travelling the world, witnessing history unfold) but soon enough, one would become tired of life, and calloused after watching all of their loved ones fade away...

Being mortal is beautiful, because only then can one appreciate life.

No, I wouldnt want to live forever because anybody I loved and cared for would die and pass on and I would stay alive to see all of this, so I wouldnt be able to get close with anyone because of the pain it would cause me. Plus I want to die with triumph, and be remembered for who I truly am.

im scared of world... i dont wanna live forever =/

Yes and no- Yes because id want to see what happens and not miss out on anything...NO because- everything you lived for, everything that lived for you has passed way and they are left behind while you carry on into a time that will not be your. Life is more beautiful to us mortals because we know inside that anyday could be our last and that we wont last.

I would want to live for around 150 years but have the fitness of a 20 year old =] I want to travel the world, become in the police force, travel in a private yacht, have a wife and kids. But you wouldnt have all of this time in just a normal life. But I know none of this will happen probably lol :(

but i can :)
and mortal is beautiful

Live forever no. I want to find out what comes next.

I would not want to live forever, because it would feel like there is nothing to live for, you'll see it eventually. I don't know how else to explain it.

I think that you would eventually go insane. After centuries of losing everyone that ever meant anything to you you would lose the desire to continue. When people we love die we lose bits of ourselves. I recently lost my oldest friend and she was the only one that had ties to our high school days. I no longer have anyone with whom to share those memories.
As people disappear your relevance in the world also
shrink.
As much as we crave survival I think immortality in a mortal world would be intolerable eventually.

Being mortal is not beautiful, it's earthly. Being mortal and dying are not the same thing. Earth, uniquely or not so uniquely, is filled with only transitory life.

If one lives forever he will get tired, better for me is to live and go

i think i just want to live enough to see the ones i love, most especially my children, able to make on their own,and seeing them successful and financially stable.

If I need not eat and sleep and poop and do anything leading up to or to facilitate the afore mention, I'd gladly live forever.
