Ah this is an easy one. Your in luck because I am an artist. Let me tell you how I went about it. While attending college I went to an art studio and took lessons acquiring various art techniques. From there I painted in my free time. I then painted free murals for the local schools, and library and donated free painting lessons, copyrighted a painting in the Library of Congress, gave painting lessons in my home then opened a small studio and taught others how to paint. Made myself a name and soon people were searching me out to do art work for them. As far as writing goes I freelanced some articles for the local town paper. Like anything in life you set short term goals then long term goals. You can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it and stick to it. Good Luck.

I'm not sure how old you are, but start with creative writing classes in High School. Go to school for writing or English. Read lots of books. To be a good writer you have to be a good reader first.

The most practical way is to educate yourself, and practice each day. Whether through formal schooling, or self-teaching, learn the craft and do it.

well the most practical way is to be creative..........think well and be talented and rest comes from practice

just draw a picture and write about what you drew

Unfortunately, there us not much chance in this world for artists who produce a unique product. In spite of that, writing gets you jobs everywhere. Popular freelance writers in New York are making millions off of offers from magazines such as Vanity fair, The New Yorker and GQ, as well as many other popular publications because they literally have all monthly literature at their disposal. Writing is one of the few cultural elements still appreciated in society today. Visual art such as painting and sculpting have been mostly phased out of society's list if things that can be used for information or communication, therefore is not appreciated as it used to be. Although I think it is a shame that peoples talents are being disregarded for somebody Else's, of a different kind. I feel that visual artists should channel their talents in to communicative arts, there is a large demand for people experienced in web layouts, animation and video production. Art forms such as those should be taken up by those people who have visual perspective and talent. These jobs follow the same bedrock idea of visual art, yet they are in a communicative form that society values

Just keep plugging and constantly improve on the attempts.

I'm a successful artist (i.e. I actually get PAID ;), and I'm also working on an epic time-travel novel. I didn't have any formal education for my art career; what I had was a unique form of art that nobody else has developed. Likewise with my writing. Being able to come up with good ideas is far more important than having proper credentials.

The most practical way to be an artist or writer is to just get to work already. Hemingway said that the hardest part of writing was applying the seat of the pants to the seat of the chair and I agree. People who grow goatees and hang around Starbucks talking about theory never actually produce anything...

You can start writing for school newspaper or maybe the real newspaper. You can write novels. Just use your imgaination.
