There seems to be two general answers to your question. Either nothing happens, as our body and mind turn slowly to dust, or anything happens. I do not believe in any one religion, but perhaps they are all right. Perhaps thoughts of afterlife in all theism are true. You could enter the six Bardos that Buddhism speaks of, or you could find yourself standing in front of Heaven's Gates. And anything in between.

Death is part of life
It's not how many years...but the quality of the years you live..

Nobody knows.

Depends who you ask. That's partly why there are hundreds of organized religions alone.

It's not over... just one trip down here (out of many) to learn whatever lessons you wanted to learn that lifetime... Kind of like a classroom.

Then we go back home.

It is fun to think about, but impossible to know. Live each day to its fullest.

It's not a waste. God intended for us to live a meaningful life while we are here. We reproduce, live, love, laugh and learn. Then it is time for us to move over for the next generation so that they may have their chance at a full life. As for what happens when we pass, who knows? Maybe we are reincarnated and we are born as someone else. Like being recycled in a way. There's only one way to find out... and unless it's your day to die, then you won't know the true answer until then!

I believe that it IS something...some after-life existence that is a distination for humans or living things alike. Just think...after tha Bible, Qur'an etc, inside each talk about SOmething MORE that this earthly living. these ideas and wriiten text were around many years. SOME truth has to be there.

I think after we pass on. our bodies are dead but our soul lingers on. our bodies are only a cover our real self inner person is our souls thats who makes us a person and that does not die. just rememeber even thou our hearts stop and our body isnt around we still exist. till we go before God judgement day, and he deceides where we will go. so try to be the best you can be while we are on earth and keep your heart clean. thats all we can do.

This really is a deeply religious question.

Who am I? Where did I come from? What happens to me when I die? Certainly one cannot answer these questions even for themselves without some sense of purpose in life.

I have seen a lot of religions up close and personal, because I elected to voluntarily serve my church for two years as a missionary. I can tell you what I have found to be not only the best answer, but the one that rings true to my internal spiritual core.

Life is eternal. We existed before we came, we are here for a reason, and we have more spiritual progress to look forward to at the end of this life.

All the world's major religions teach of a personal core, or spirit, which allows us to discern right from wrong. Enhancement of this core is possible through self-realization, prayer, meditation, whatever you choose to call it. Regardless of name, it is essentially reaching for an eternal being who can teach us through our spiritual core and speak peace to our hearts and minds. I would recomment that you find a religion that sounds and feels right to you in every aspect. personal conduct, spiritual education, ethics, worship practices, etc.

Please understand that my personal feelings about religion may not match yours, but I found all the answers to all my questions with the Mormon church. You can find them at http://www.lds.org.
