The world philosophy is made up of two Greek words, philos, which is the name for love, and Sophos, meaning wisdom. Philosophy is a wholesome approach in thinking about life. It is about finding deeper meanings of all things. It is more about the art of asking questions than it is to seeking ultimate answers, a job for the sciences.
It is notable in the history of knowledge that in the beginning there were no partitions in the mind based upon the types of knowledge as we have today. There were, for instance, no distinctions between science, mathematics, and the knowledge of artistic forms in Aristotle. The contrivance of a classification of knowledge into its various disciplines is only modern western, the branches, for instance, of physics, chemistry, biology, psychology and medicines etc. This classification obvious has it is reason and purpose in human life, but it makes very difficult to understand the classical mindsets of the ancient philosopher to whom life was the source of all knowledge and all things concerning life their subject.

The word is of Greek origin: φιλοσοφ?α (philosophía), meaning love of wisdom.[1] Philo meaning love and sophia meaning wisdom.

Greek. Philo - love, and Sophos - knowledge. Unlike others, I didn't look it up and copy and paste.

Its a Greek origin . The science to examine the material aspect of nature - there are five natural ingredients - where from the body and this universe is made or formed. It is air, fire, water, sky and earth. To view these four aspects with the body and universe and its analysis - then after concluding that the entire universe and the bodies containing the soul inside is same is the science which is known as phylosophy. Its a toughest subject even to read , and question does not arise for a layman to uderstand .

A philosopher is one who is a Friend of Sophia or a Lover of Sophia, Sophia being the personification of wisdom or knowledge. To obtain knowledge in ancient Greece was not merely to accumulate information, but to gain an understanding. All literal etymology aside, one could say that philosophy is the search for understanding.
