Question:came first....And let me be clear - I do not merely mean the existence OF eggs as the ? (fish were "having" them long before there existed a chicken..) I mean The Chicken or The Egg

strictly speaking, the chicken came first before the egg. it's just like the mother having a child in her womb. there can be no child without a mother; therefore, no egg will exist without the chicken existing first

From an evolutionary standpoint, chicken.

As until true chicken traits are displayed(ie. the grown-up chicken), the egg is not a chicken's egg. That first chicken may have come from an egg, but it was not a chicken egg. It was the egg of whatever came before the chicken.

It is a circle. The chicken lays the egg, the egg hatches into a chicken. There is no true beginning.
