Position:Home>Philosophy> By helping others how do we help ourselves?

Question:By helping others how will it help me as a person? Well just like what they say it would make you feel good and doing the opposite would hunt you like nightmare.
The way or degree at which a person benefits from an act of good will or simply help can be viewed in different ways. For instance if I’m a religious nut, doing what is good could imply I’d have enough weight to counter my evil deeds on the Day of Judgment, which in turn would somehow give me the satisfaction that I am being a good follower of my faith, and a sense of being saved on that final day. On the other hand, being a man for others (help) would build your “person”, make your actions morally justified and is unreasonably in harmony with the mores of the church or the society. That in turn would give you no emotional burden or any hunting conscience. Simply you abide to the existing reality of goodness then you’d be on the right tract.
Moreover, whatever action you make would sooner or later come back to you. So it would be a lot wiser to help others for the reason that in someway or the other, time would come that you’ll need a hand. To sum it all, which way you interpret it, it’ll end up on you. Still it couldn’t be perceived as a total act of good will without asking for anything in return.

Humans are selfish by nature, they are by necessity driven by selfishness. Its not a bad thing, simply a fact. Everything we do, benefits us in some way.

It gives you a good feeling.

we learn from the little help we give people and realize we do not want to end in their position and make changes on our life if we are headed the same way

By helping others we make the world a better place to live, thereby helping ourselves.

It's called Karma. Most of us cannot understand abstract spiritual things until we grow much spiritually. First, we have to bear in mind that we are all debtors to the world and the world does not owe us anything. It is a great privilege for all of us to be allowed to do anything for the world. In helping the world we really help ourselves.

I gives you a good feeling.I would consider that helping myself.

The feel good factor, gives you spiritual well being.

The basis of all human behaviour is self-interest, so sayeth Jeremy Bentham, famour Philosopher.

I work on a voluntary basis with school children and it makes me feel good. I'm not sure why and the only benefits to me are that they will learn to read a little better and may become employable. Hence a few less people on benefit.

Doing good things will result in good feelings!

Doing bad things will haunt you and make you feel unhappy...

The spirit of giving of wishing good upon others, born of a kindredness and awareness of the need in others for unity, and peace, a need to have ones role and place in life and the world reinforced.

The souls sustenance acquired from the knowledge that one has the ability to give of ones time or talent to others without need for recompense or self interest or gain.

We help ourselves in many ways, mainly in that in recognition of the need in others we allay the need within ...

by definition we are all one. meaning one spirt . all part of the whole.

say you help your foot doesnt it help the whole body.
and when we see ourselfs as one spirt it brings good to the whole

God helps those who help them selves !

When we help others, we should get some happiness from knowing that we helped that person(s) out. We help ourselves by seeing ourselves helping another. If we can make that person happy that should help us, by making us feel good, knowing that the other person is better off in some way.

You build your self esteem

Three ways - 1) gives us some human contact, usually, which is a good thing. 2) does our "good deed for the day", which counts toward self-respect and happiness and 3) leaves them with goodwill toward us which could come in handy later.

It brightens our world.
