Position:Home>Philosophy> Freckles, moles, bald spots, birthmarks, grey hair. Are these really flaws?

Question:Such things are said by society to be flaws to be covered up and hidden.

But are they really flaws, or are they simple characteristics?

Does our society hate the "real" human being?

Why is something real and natural considered a flaw?

Heck yes. We are all "molded" by media and what they say are flaws become flaws in our eyes as well.

Sheeple. We are that, sigh

no they are gods way of telling you to stop touching your self

When I look at the size of the beauty industry (billions and billions of dollars), I have to say that society does hate the "real" human being. People aren't generally attracted to moles and bald-spots, so we try and hide them. Some people like like freckles, but most people dislike them. People naturally dislike moles and imperfections.

No, it's what makes you unique. =]

it's our society that says such things are flaws. the problem is though that we are part of that society, and therefore we're partly responsible.

No not 'flaws' that is socially mediated.

I have a bright red birthmark its just a the size of a pencil end but I always wanted it to have a shape like the scarlet pimpernell on the babys bottom in the old film. As a child I also wanted red curly hair and braces and freckles too. Perhaps becasue the most admired girl in the school had these attributes.I have grey hair now and cant wait to get more so i can start putting coloured streaks on it - Yes the more startling the merrier but I don't think cellulite quilty thighs is going to be top of the pops because we would have to buck the beauty business and fashionista's.
Thankfully most people have their feet on the ground.

I think they are just a part of who we are and everyone has something that is different from the others and for gray hair i Will wear it as a badge of honor when i get them as it's part of life as is balding and moles and birthmarks etc...i wear my scars with pride as i earned them.

I like to think of them as culture, or charactor. Much like an antique piece of furniture, the blimishes are part of it's charactor and tell the whole story of it's existance. To sand or polish it away depreciates the value. I love just the way you are.

These are the hallmarks of a well lived life.

you have good deep thought inside your head, you about just like me.
dang , your english is good, mine is not, still working on it.
Freckles, moles, bald spots, birthmarks, grey hair. Are these really flaws? ......in the way , yes....just like if you leave your bike outside too long then the bike become rust, if you don't take care of your bike , before it get worse.
same as people, if they don't take care of themselves.
if you think this is stupid, just let me know.
