Position:Home>Philosophy> Where do thoughts come from?

Question:If I assume that there is nothing but the mind (my mind), where do all the ideas that I can not call my own (everyone else's ideas) come from. If you do not exist, where do these ideas come from? Are they mine at a deeper level, or is there a sort of thought matrix that supplies them? If I assume there is only my mind, and I am not all knowing, must there be something else, such as a thought matrix?

thoughts in their most basic form are products of an infinite combinaiton of electric impulses in our brain's neurons and synpases.

having said that, the very concept of a mind is a mere label for something that exists as a basic force not dissimilar to time, which moves along regardless of whether we look at our watches or not.

every new idea that did not require a directly referential input to be generated in one's brain is one's own idea. it is merely "owned" in the common definition of the word when one makes others aware of the existence of his thought before anyone else does.

the very concept of a thought matrix practically eradicates the possibility of free thought and free will. and merely reduces all sentient beings at apple pickers in an apple orchard of ideas.

whew... that blew my brain, dude... good question...

Where do you THINK they come from?

Seriously, there Is kind of a matrix of thought. You do not exist in a vacuum. We are all surrounded by input not only the the loud media & internet, but also the subtle input form all of our senses. People say we don't use all of our brains, but we do! Most of the room is thousands of GB of storage for everything we have heard, smelled, tasted etc. from birth. Some people say from before birth... All of which is literally "food for thought"! (I think...)

Thoughts come from the subconscious mind and they are involutary. BUT you do have the power over your own mind. You can alter your own thoughts, and it takes time. You have to make an effort to live in the conscious mind for the period of time it takes to make a new habit of thought form. Being aware of every single thought, and replacing the ones you don't want with ones that you do want.

All of your thoughts are yours. And why do you think that you are not all knowing? Do you not know that you have all answers within?

You do.

Musky, its you again. Christ, where do you find the thought matrix stuff. All humans interconnected by telepathy, and what do we get. A migraine. It's Paddy's day, go have a decent drink somewhere, meet some hottie and drive her to Chicago. Things will make more sense in the morning. B ye.

You could call this matrix "life".its through the daily happenings that we get our ideas.

Excellent question. In my dreams I sometimes have conversations with people who's ideas I don't remember ever having myself. Or I hear beautiful music I've never heard before. Who's to say reality is not the same. All we can be certain of is that we think whatever or whoever 'we' may be.

but y do u assume so.

Our mind is a tool we are given. So is the body, our senses, and our emotions. We are not our mind, or any one of those things, but we use them. We tend to overidentify with them and think we do not exist without them.

Thoughts are products of experience. And thoughts have power. You can endow something with enormous thought and it will influence matter. (like a talisman does)

You create your own life from thought. As you think, so it is. (if you don't mind, it doesn't matter)

There is a place within you where all answers are. You just have to relax and go there.

There is a group mind where we pick up thoughts.

There is also an individual mind. Your thoughts can come from various places even within yourself. If your thoughts come from your subconscious, then you are usually ruled by fear.

If you take responsibility for your life, knowing that you have created it, then when you are ruled by the positive, by love, then you consciously create life, and life is what you make it.

It is not satisfying to learn about the synapsis etc. when we need something more direct and simple. Thought is a way to create.

You are at the helm. What do you wish to create? Go for it.

Western life tends to let the intellect dominate.
Not all things can be sifted through the intellect.
We have other parts of ourselves which we often ignore....and they are very helpful.

Even when we "die" our ideas and impressions continue to operate. So thought is not only relegated to the physical brain. In spirit we have an exact copy of our physical self....for as long as we want it.

The trick in life is to have balance. Not too much thinking, not too much emotion, not too much physical stuff....when in balance we shine.

There is a joke: Descarte sat down in a fine restaurant. The waiter asked if he would like an apperitif. And Descarte said: I think not.
So then, POOF! He was gone. (hahaha)

Where do thoughts come from? Who cares. Just use them wisely. :)

Thoughts are a product of sensory experiences human has. The way we obtain our ideas is mainly of what we have been perceiving.
