Position:Home>Philosophy> Is knowledge really power?

Question:It depends on the kind of knowledge. There are some kinds of knowledge that can keep you from being taken advantage of -- be it in business, in your emotional life, economic & legal issues, etc. Self-knowledge can also be power -- to know & understand your strengths and weaknesses, the patterns of your behavior that are negative & positive -- because you can learn to make better personal choices.

But sometimes knowledge can be painful and can make you feel isolated from others, especially if you're leading the "examined life" among others who do not accept responsibility for their actions & their lives in general.

And knowledge of the injustices of life can make you very sad if you don't find ways of balancing the darkness you see with the light -- the more intensity you bring to life, the more you need to cultivate your capacity for joy, for seeing the simple beauties of life. (Closeness to Nature helps a lot.)

There are times when I really envy couch potato types... But that's not the sensibility I was born with, so that option isn't open to me. So I learn how to deal with the psyche I was given... and that knowledge is very powerful indeed.

it truly is, you can do so much, and you can protect your self. definately knowledge is power.

Absolutely. People will not follow a person that has a poor knowledge bank. Especially when the people know what a person is saying is wrong. Even though many have followed people who are wrong, those who are wrong have the knowledge of argument and passionate speaking to convince people they are right.

Yes ; it really is .

Yes, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

in my point of view, everything is power. Because power is the run in this world. making it into a category, power is the core, which spreads out to everything else in existence. knowledge is merely a form of power

Knowledge is power. From ancient time there were the wise men, wizards, who were the men of science. They were as gods to the masses because the wisdom of any science was esoteric. And now, here in modern times comes the scholar and the scientist. Of course these men guide the masses true uncharted territories and into greater glory, but when they have the ulterior motive we are so F'd. Just because they seem to know more than us. Like that man has to kill and eat because amino acid cannot be found anywhere else....hmmm!!
Peace.

According to swami vivekananda the education must be man making,so the knowledge which helps you to become a real humanbeing is really power

Knowledge is a tool which can be used to enrich life in many ways. It is true that without knowledge the human resource becomes limited and that may give them the feeling of helplessness.

Yes it is, but it's not 'wisdom' nor 'common sense'. There are many highly academically qualified people out there, who's lack of wisdom and simple 'common sense', causes so much grief and suffering to the innocent, because their impressive qualifications give them access to decisions outside their field of knowledge, especially those in some of the judiciary, welfare and health fields.
Because someone is highly knowledgeable, it doesn't mean that they're not a pratt as far as human life is concerned, and anyone who is put in a position of deciding the fate of another human being, or even a Country, etc, regardless of of their 'knowledgeable' qualifications, should be rigorously tested and checked by, at least, two other equally qualified people, for their equally high level of common sense and wisdom.
Knowledge is power, but it can be highly dangerous in the wrong hands.

Knowledge indeed is power, but positive knowledge, not knowledge about how to make bombs, or how to insult people, or whatever.

After knowledge comes the wiseness.

Knowledge is the most powerful weapon at our disposal, if used right, or even abused.

"Knowledge application is power, knowledge can afford you the ability to create opportunity, if power is your goal the right knowledge if applied correctly will help you to create an opportunity to gain more power.
So really knowledge just gives you better odds not actual power but it is still indispensable because it is such a valuable factor in this formula. MAWha HA ha HAAAAAAA ha ha!"

As long as the knowledge is correct.
But, then, who is to say

A BIG YES to that. Knowledge gives the man the awareness that the brain is much much more than that tofu-like substance an ignorant man finds whenever he smashes the skull of a deer with his primitive weapon.

Knowledge is power if you have the monopoly.

If everyone knew, then you don't have power.

Knowledge is where early religions get their power.

Use knowledge to manipulate ignorance people.

NO Its Not.......

I realize that most have come to accept the
conventional wisdom that
Knowledge=Power Formula
and it has been promoted in our time
as being it but the reality of it is different...

A more accurate distinction of this would be expressed as
Knowledge= POTENTIAL Power where
APPLIED Knowledge=Power

and so Knowledge is only potential power until it is applied and put into action;
only then does knowledge becomes REAL Power.....

If knowledge is power then your able to do alot with it so yes it is with knowledge you can create....
