Why do people keep saying the meaning of life is 42?

Question:Yes I KNOW its from the hitch hikers guide etc. So why do people keep citing it as the meaning of life? Its just a nonsense, meaningless, a random number. Do the people who type that as an answer think they are being smart and clever? I think its a stupid reply and people who say it must have no thoughts of their own.

because 42 is shorthand for STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS! There is no meaning and 42 is as good a way of saying it as writing a screed of text!

Because the number 42 is completely meaningless and just an answer to basically say that no one knows the answer to it.

The meaning of life is 42 because the number is meaningless towards that answer.

If I see the question "What is the meaning of life?" I don't answer it at all, because it's bloody stupid. Stupid question, stupid answer, maybe?

Because in no way is it connected to 23.
And if someone sees the film "the number 23" then they keep seeing 23 everywhere.
42 is one of the only numbers that is not connected to it.
and 42 is the number of a lot of things. But I agree it is incredibly stupid.

You are right . Merely mentioning 42 without any sense or giving any illustration or example or synopsis , its absurd. Some one has cited wikepedia , but what does it mean is not mentioned . People some writes for fun sake , and I feel someone might have cut the joke without previewing any pros and cons. It must be viewed that, if one is not knowing or prepared for the answer with any logic or any sense, no one is compelling him to answer Answers basically meant for the right counseling based on the experience and having mastery or acewmen over the subjects. I guess, simply because the real meaning of life comes from 'Catch 22' somebody else decides to add 20 to make 42. Chill out i'ts just a number. Now 616 us a bit scary. However in some of my control 'stuff' 0.42 seems the right number.

either it means what does life mean and that means to live
the other is what is the point of life, and that is a simple programming that every single being has.
