It's a baritone or also known as a euphonium!. They are both basically baby tubas!. They all are meant to be bass clef instruments with the rest of the low brass (tuba, trombone, baritone/euphonium, sousie, etc), however it can occasionally be played in treble clef!. Your teacher has probably the fourth valve one because he is professional, but most usually come in 3 valves!. also you can get them in rotary valves but i don't find that necessary!.

Just some other random pointless information if you are interested in it, you should try to start out on a trombone and then work your way to a baritone then you can also play a tuba!.

if you would like to know anymore info on the baritone or any low brass instrument for that manner, you can go to my profile and email me and i will help you with your question!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Euphonium/Baritone horn!? It's the only thing I can think of!. Low brass instruments: trombone, baritone saxophone, tuba, euphonium, tenor saxophone, sousaphone (tuba for marching, basically)!.

I play euphonium, and often describe it as a small tuba!. The pitch is definitely higher than a tuba!. Musically (for pitch) it usually doubles either trombones or tenor saxes (and occasionally a bunch of other instruments)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

definitly sounds like a euphonium!. a baritone only has 3 keys!. A euph can go higher than a tuba, but it still goes pretty low!.
