scale patterns is probably best running through them up and down the neck getting faster with time and using alternate picking so that you use a down stroke on the string then an up stroke

if you need some scales to run through go to ultimate-guitar!.com and seach 'misc scales' this'll also help you imrovise solos

try putting the metronome faster than you can play and try that then back it down itll be easier!.

It takes allot of practice, which creates muscle memory but their is many other things involved , alternate picking, hammer ons and pull offs!. All this things give the appearane of speedWww@QuestionHome@Com

It takes PRACTICE!.!.!. maybe 1000 HOURS or more of PRACTICE!. You start out slow and then build in speed as you develop MUSCLE MEMORY because fast picking is ALL ABOUT MUSCLE MEMORYWww@QuestionHome@Com
