I started on an electric but, it's basically the same thing except the neck is smaller and I have to play with a pick!.

I taught (still teaching, I guess) myself, and I started with Guitar for Dummies, I think!. It doesn't really matter!. Go to the library and look at the book they have in the music section!. Pick one that you understand with eary-to-follow diagrams!. If you can understand it w/o having your guitar beside you when you're at the library to refer to, it's good enough!.

When my book was overdue, I returned it and just went on ultimateguitar!.com for tabs and chords (the book I borrowed taught me how to read tabs and all that basic stuff) so now I'm just kind of going along and doing stuff my own way, and it's working!.

And when you buy a guitar!.!.!. Well, don't go for the cheapest!. And look at the strings!. Nylon strings are easier to play and don't hurt your fingers too much, but nylon strings are more for classical guitar, which is like orchestra stuff!. Yamahas are good, but a lot of people start with Fenders (people I know anyway)!.

Some music stores sell guitars in packages where you get a guitar, case, book, and a billion picks and maybe a tuning whistle!. Go to one and see what they have to offer, and you can always ask for help!. Music store people usually want to help and know a bunch of stuff about music (the one I go to sometimes does anyway, lol)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. I used http://www!.guitar!.about!.com to help me get started, but I did get lessons in the end!. Go to Guitar Center or something and ask them if they have any good books/vids for beginners!.

2!. DO NOT buy anything that is less than, say 90$!. It's a cheap piece of crap!. Start out with something from Yamaha or Epiphone, and buy lighter gauge strings if the strings dig into your fingers to hard!. If you can't put them in yourself, the folks at GC will surely help!.

Good luck ;DWww@QuestionHome@Com

acoustic guitar basics is good for chords
and guitar method 1 is good for learning notes!. they are both books!.
and when looking because its your first dont go for something to expensive because you have to learn to care for it first, like your first car!. and ask about the action ( height of strings on neck) if you have 2 high action its hard to press down but too low it sounds buzzyWww@QuestionHome@Com

When buying an acoustic guitar, look out for the quality of the sound the strings make!. also, i look out for scratches on the guitar!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
