Your problem sounds like it's medical!. Since you've been playing for three years, the likelihood of perhaps a damaged nerve is high!. You might need to go see a doctor!. Because of your experience, I don't think it's stress or tension!. Again, I advise you see a doctor about this, because there may be some sort of damage in your hand!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It may depend on how long you have been playing!. If you are a beginner it may be just getting your hands and fingers used to the awkward position!. If you feel some pain on your thumb where the thumb rest is, that is normal!. Try to relax your fingers as much as possible, because your stress when you play is making your fingers grip the keys very tight, causing pain!. Warm up exercises made just for clarinet may help you relax your fingers and hopefully relieve some of the pain!. Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Maybe the clarinet isn't good for you ergonomically!? Does it hurt your hand or wrist when you play!? If you are just starting to play, and/or you don't enjoy it you should try another instrument!. I remember it being kind of a pain on my thumb when I played the clarinet!. I played for 1 year then switched to the saxophone!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

do you think maybe you don't like playing the clarinet!? are you doing it for your pleasure or someone else!? try another instrument!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
