Question: Does Anyone Know Of Any Good Shakespearean Female Monologues!?
I need to do one for a school audition!. Last time I did an excerpt from, "Much Ado About Nothing"!. I did Beatrice's part with her and Benedict when she is ranting about Claudio and how they had wronged her!.
Should I do the same one or a different one!? The teacher doesn't care!. It needs to be 2 mins I think!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Act 1, Scene 2 of Richard III - Lady Anne's speech!. I do this one all the time, it's so powerful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure of the length, but Katharina's speech in the Taming of the Shrew in Act 5 may work!. I did this speech in my Shakespeare class a whiles back!. The speech is Katharina's indication of her shocking transformation of her opinions about marriage and men!.

It's near the bottom of the page, beginning with "Fie, fie! unknit that threatening unkind brow!.!.!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Lady Macbeth "Out Damned Spot" Monologue, Act 5 Scene 1!. It's not quite a monologue, but if you just cut out the lines from the doctor and gentlewoman in between, it's great!. If you do it right it will show a strong range of ability and will definitely show that you're willing to take risks, which directors love!. Break a leg!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I didn't personally read it, but there is a pretty lengthy monologue in Macbeth spoken by Lady Macbeth!. They just killed the king and she is sleepwalking and going over the events!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'll list every good one I can find:

Midsummer Night's Dream Act 2 Scene 1 Titania "These are the forgeries of jealousy!.!.!."
Same, Act 1 Scene 1 Helena has a considerable monologue!.

Romeo and Juliet Act 2 Scene 3 Nurse "Even or odd, of all the days in the year, Come Lammas-eve at night shall she be fourteen!."

Portia has a few that you could stretch to two minutes in Merchant of Venice!.

Taming of the shrew Act 5 Scene 2 Katharina "Fie, fie! unknit that threatening unkind brow"

Much Ado you've done

Hamlet throughout Ophelia has some long winded things that could be drawn to two minutes easily!.

Lady Macbeth has a lot, and they're really, really good!. Some are mini-monologues from a dialogue where the other person (Macbeth) says little)
Act 1 Scene 5, "Give him tending; He brings great news!."
Act 1 Scene 7 "Was the hope drunk Wherein you'd dress'd yourself!?"
Act 1 Scene 7 "What beast was't then"
Act 1 Scene 7 "We fail! But screw your courage to the sticking-place!."
Act 2 Scene 2 "That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold"
Act 3 Scene 2 ""Nought's had, all's spent"
also, the "out damn spot" already mentioned

also from Macbeth:
Act 3 Scene 5 Hecate "Have I not reason, bedlams as you are"
